Ski Length Advice?

Hey man, yea it sounds like both are just slightly outside what you need. You're right about the tradeoff between maneuverability and speed control/stability too. I'd say since you say you're a pretty aggressive skier and also since it sounds like you definitely prefer an all mountain/freeride style you'd probably be better off going bigger than shorter, especially with the early rise and your concerns about not enough camber.

This sort of thing depends a lot on exactly which skis you're talking about. Giving the rocker amount helps, but there's a lot more that goes into it.

youre right that youre kinda between the two sizes, but you do have some weight on you. only thing stopping me from telling you to go 193 is that youre in the east and you like trees and occasional moguls. will it be your only ski? do you jump and shit?

I'm looking at Slant Hindsights (http://slantskis.com/skis/hindsight/). A very generous person in my life bought a pair as a gift and I just need to choose a length. Been a minute since I've been on new gear, so don't want to blow it.

i wasn't thinking straight earlier, i think 183 is the clear choice here. right around your height which means it can do it all well and won't be lacking anywhere but won't feel like yachts when youre hitting bumps or trees. easy choice IMO

i was miscalculating what 6' translates to in centimeters... it's almost 183 on the dot. and i think i was being swayed by your weight being higher but that's no worries if the ski isnt a noodle. 183 no question IMO

Feels like 183 is the safe choice, but not necessarily a hard no on the 193. Kinda the nature of the problem it seems.

absolutely. but do keep in mind, this is classic skier gear talk nonsense... we quibble and worry over small differences like 10 cm. make a decision and don't look back

id be more inclined to say yeah maybe do 193 if you werent on the east or didnt like trees and bumps. 193 is a lot of ski and while that has its benefits (i love big cruise missile skis in the right conditions), the downsides outweigh them in this situation. 193 boards don't thrive in trees and bumps, while 183 will definitely be just fine for even your biggest days on the east but will be way better for your typical days

my 2 cents. remember, weigh your options but once you decide, remember it's all gooooood
