Personally, I like some of his songs and there is a good majority of his songs that I don't really care for. But, one of the things that really draws me to him is his attitude. He's not really trying to be anybody and as someone said previous to me, he puts out a vibe like he doesn't really give a fuck what other people think of him and his music. He just sorta does it because he likes making music and enjoys being himself. On top of that, he just seems like such a nice guy. At least that's what I have gathered from watching videos and listening to interviews of him...

I think that Boy George said it the best when he said that the music today has no voice to it. like today you cant tell the difference from what is david guetta from lady gaga from drake. it is all the same shit, no artist today has a PERSONALITY or an IDENTITY. if 2pac was still alive, we would have never even heard of these clowns, and there would have been a much higher standard of rap.

People hate geoper because hes good at skiing and wears clothes that fit. People hate rap because there are a bunch of no talent try hards in the game. You're actually better off lacking talent and having $ or influence these days. Talent will get you no where if everone will custy up and buy the bullshit. I get it, it's catchy, its slow, its easy to say the lines to your friends but that doesn't mean it's good.

I've made it a point to avoid listening to Post Malone and others of that genre (especially if their name starts with 'Lil'... fuck that pussetry) simply because I hate the direction rap has gone, the overall aesthetic, the sound, the lack of creative and original compositions, etc. I'm an incredibly pretentious rock musician/sound engineer douchebag and i generally shit on music that isn't exactly what I like. It's fucking awesome. And I can back up my douchebaggery because I can play the fuck outta a guitar. claim

That all said, i read this thread and decided to force myself to listen to post malone's top 5 songs on spotify, starting with rockstar. Right off the bat I'm already biased against the name since it's rap tryin to be all rock and roll and shit.

And then, surprise, I actually fucking enjoy what I'm hearing. rockstar was a good song up until 21 savage came in. Fuck that lackadaisical mumbo jumbo retard rap sound. Stupid ass lyrics too. That's the type of shit I really don't like. But overall rockstar was a good song, harmonies at the end were solid although predictable.

The other songs were pretty good, not at all what I was expecting. They all sound pretty much the same, same tempo, same key, same rap rhythms. I think the composition is overall musically simple and kinda boring relative to the way overdone production/engineering. Can't comment on the lyrics because I really don't listen to or give a fuck about lyrics in general. I think post malone's music would really stand out better if there was more interesting instrumentation and composition because there's lots of musical potential along with the solid vocals and verses but currently feels lacking. Needs another, more instrument-based producer in the studio.

sparknotes: Pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Post Malone's music despite having a negative bias prior to listening. 4/20 will bang again.

Feel this. For some reason rockstar is stupid catchy to me and the melodies and harmonizing are quite pleasing to the ears. Post is an interesting person to me musically. Seems like he's gunna cover a lot of bases before he's done making music

That's one of my favorite dylan songs. It's good that he plays a bit and listens to different stuff rather than having no musical talent. That said, I still hate his music.

I don't think I've ever really hated on people making it. If you paint something really shitty that somebody likes and it makes you rich, good for you. I'll still think it's shit, but good for you.

I think the music sucks. Clearly a lot of people like it because it's selling but it isn't that I haven't listened to enough. I just don't like it.

Rap took more than a turn for the worst years ago. The genre went to hell, and post malone isn't saving it for me.

When I clicked on the link I realized that to answer sdrapers post I actually have heard at least 4 of his most popular songs several times, still don't like any of them. Honestly some of them I hated without even knowing it was him.
