Trying to decide between a couple sets of bindings, some input please and thank you?

I'm trying to pick between Marker Squire bindings or the Look Pivot 12 Duals. I have Squires on my other skis, mostly for the lightness factor. I know a lot of people have big issues with those but I personally haven't had a problem. Thinking about trying something new, but I've never tried any of the Look bindings.

I'm about 140lbs and will probably be about the same by the time winter rolls around, I've been skiing my whole life so I guess advanced skier category. They're going on a set of Whipits so goods with high impact magic would be cool. I also have had ACL and meniscus reconstruction so any other suggestions any of you might have for a solid binding that doesn't have a ridiculously high din would be appreciated. Thank you very much!

for reliability/bombproofness, go Pivots
for weight, go Squires

the Pivots don't really make releasing safer on your knees, but in the 3 years I've had Pivots I've honestly never had a single instance of unnecessary release or felt like they held when they should have popped. I also love their brake system; the little platform thing sets into a little recessed area when you click in, so it's flush with the heelpiece platform. that platform sticks out on other bindings and is easy to break. that said, if you do need to replace a Pivot brake it's fucking expensive

Tyrolia attack 11 or 13; they are as light as the squires and much more durable

Honestly, for alpine bindings, I don't tend to care about weight since all that weight is directly underfoot and I tend not to notice it. But that's a personal preference.

Pivots are a lot of people's favorite bindings for a reason. If you're willing to drop the extra cash on Pivots, I'd say go for it. This article lays out the specs on some of the most popular bindings, and might be useful: http://blistergearreview.com/gear-reviews/blister-alpine-ski-binding-guide

I once snapped the base plate of a pair squires on impact of landing, which subsequently made my ski fly down the entire mountain almost hitting a dude. Ended up having to buy pivots anyway. Adding onto this I'm not even a remotely heavy person either and haven't had one issue with pivot bindings..

All of my skis have Salomon STH2 bindings and I've never had a pre-release or binding failure. They're not super light but they're affordable and bombproof.

Thank you so much everybody! You're probably right about the durability of the Squires, maybe I got lucky with mine but I also don't want to break a set halfway through the season and remount them with a different set anyways ya know? Maybe I'll see if one of the shops in town still has bindings laying around and go physically pick up a bunch of them to see.

Maybe I should look into letting go of wanting light bindings? Do you think the weight makes a big enough difference for park?

I don't have an opinion on how much difference weight of bindings means in the real world, but I agree with the poster who suggested Tyrolia Attack instead of Squires. The Tyrloia Attack is very similar to the squire (toe piece is almost identical and weight is very similar) but the heel piece has better action and is easier to engage in deep snow, and the stack height it lower so your boots are closer to the skis.
If you like pivots, go with the pivots, but if you're going with squires, get the attack instead.

I only weigh 130 and I ski pretty hard almost everyday of winter, and my pivots were beat to shit after like 2 weeks, but they have good a warranty policy lol

only advice i have is going with the heavier din binding (not for the din setting) but because they're typically built with more metal the less plastic your binding has the more bomb proof

I only buy Salomon STH12. I've had problems with Marker's durability... The STH is cheap and durable.

for the most part, yeah you should. pivots dont have the place they do in park skiers' hearts for nothing. theyre a little heavier than most but it's not an issue

that said, i think a good in between option would be tyrolia attacks. high quality, great reputation, lighter, and you can find serious bargains on them. if i were to buy bindings that arent pivots itd be attacks no question

I had Squires on my first setup, then switched to Pivot 12s when I got a second pair of skis. I'm a 120lb female and I've never felt like the extra weight of the Pivots is holding me back, even when mounted on a solidly heavy ski

Pivots are nice but you go so many other bindings for cheaper, that are just as good.

Sth 13 ( I think it's a 13 now).
I would definitely step away from squires if your growing or progressing as a skier.

it really doesn't. the weight is all directly under you so it barely affects swing weight, which is really the only kind of weight that's a concern for park skiing

Look Pivots are legendary bindings but the Attack 13 bindings are a fantastic value as they are very light, durable and easy to enter even in powder. Easy to find them online for $120-130 a pair with brakes. I wouldn't recommend the Attack 11 binding for anyone but a beginner though. Not only is it not made as beefy as the Attack 13 and have a lower skier weight limits, it has a much larger ramp angle than the Attack 13. Ramp angle is the difference in height between the heel piece and the toe piece.
Most bindings are just slightly higher in the heel but the Attack 11 is quite a bit higher giving more forward lean which is beneficial to beginners that don't lean forward enough normally but it gives a "I'm skiing in the backseat" feeling to many advanced skiers who already have enough forward lean in their ski boots. Had a pair of older 13 Din Tyrolia bindings that were like this and going to the flatter Attack 13's felt so much better. My last 6 pairs of skis have had nothing but Attack 13 as they are so great.

warden 13 are a good option to. I would personally never recommend squires to anyone even if they fit into the din range, all that plastic can brake super easily in the weirdest situations. Especially in the cold
