Buy old skis on Craigslist or NS. They're going to get more beaten up anyway so as long as they move, you're good.

Plenty of people give old beat up sticks away for free or a case of beer. I have about 4 pairs Id give you if you were local to me.

Vishnus are the only ski I am aware of that claims to be "designed for the streets".

If you got the money, go for it, but I'd say just go used to start.
