Militia Skis Hype?

I heard that a lot of PC kids are using these. It's supposed to be some new "core" brand and they are doing preorders which is something I've never believed in. It also seems to be their first year of production so I don't understand how people already have their hands on these if they don't have sponsorship benefits. I checked out their website and they have two models the all rounder "Omniski" and the park charger the "Galaxski". I read their NS article too and they seem to have a good idea driving their company with all the zero markup, giving to the ski community, "taking back the mountains" and all that, but I still don't understand what the hype is about. They say they're prices are at basically "zero markup" but something like a Volkl Ledge or Line Tigersnakes or K2 Press must be better since they've had years and years of development, not to mention that the $ of engineering going into their making are much higher.

I've never heard of them. Have you heard of influx skis some of my buds were pretty hyped for them. One got sponsored and they look sick af but just with them being a new company probably not as good..

doesnt make any sense that they "might have enough to pay for their own season passes" because of their "zero markup" according to their ns article but are still sponsoring mediocre kids that are desperate for the opportunity to say they are sponsored.

I agree, but I got some friends who were sponsored by sego before they were fully developed.. turned out to be great skis

I think pre-orders for a brand new startup is kinda unnecessary given that it doesn't really have a strong basis in the industry yet, the owner, Marshall, dished out a bunch of pairs to local Utah riders to get his brand out there this past season and to me they looked pretty sick for a brand new startup, but I don't think that that warrants it to be good idea to just start out with pre-orders. I think it would be more appropriate to introduce the brand more slowly over a couple seasons rather than just believing customers would take their word in preorders for it that its price can't compete with others brand's quality and durability.
It is also kinda unnecessary that in it's "About" section on its website that its points a finger at the entire ski industry that its driven by greed which I think isn't true, as most ski companies try to reach out to its customers and stick to their roots (Armada, Line, etc). Like you said companies like Line, K2, and Volkl all have strong brand images and history, which is backed up by years on dev and engineering on its skis, while Militia just believes that its selling point will be its price, while there really isn't really any accurate info on its performance and durability. Experienced riders would rather pay a couple 100$ more for a ski that is more reliable in quality than going with a brand new startup.
I hope that Militia grows but I think that its putting itself out too boldly, its kind of like Jlev with Jskis who started with a lot of hype which grew his brand but he was backed up with years of experience in the ski industry. I hope that Militia Skis won't disappear abruptly like when Marshall tried to develop an indoor ski facility in Ogden.

This company seems super suspect. When I saw the super cheap preorders for revision and their commitment to the environment it seemed too good to be true, and it was. Seeing a lot of parallels with militia.

So how are they charging a bare minimum up charge, but can give away a pair of skis to every person who helps them sell 5 pairs. That tells me minimum 20% markup

If it seems too good to be true it probably is. Let's just hope they learned at least something from revision and don't fuck people over. Definitely also seeing parallels...With the dawn of Revision even I had hope in them being more of a marketing company alas I was wrong and wrecked by Scott from ON3P.

This new ski company is following much of the path revision took, whether it ends the same way we'll never know.

Just thought about it. I've been trying to create a small company myself and I know what militia is doing. It costs about 250-300 dollars in material to make a good pair of skis, you can use shitty material and use 150-250 to build skis. What I'm saying is that the preorders may actually work because they get the money for the materials while making a 50 dollar profit or so. The reason most companies sell at 800-1000 is material cost. If you sell one pair of skis at 900 dollars, subtract 600 for that pair, and cost to make the next pair, they make a 300 dollar profit. Militia is trying to make skis/but materials when the people order them. This is a shitty idea because there making almost no profit and when there behind on 100 orders for skis there company is fucked.

I think you forgot the cost of advertising, R and D, overhead for your factory or office, paying your employees, etc. You sure you're ready to start a business?

Nope. It's a contributing factor but it's not the biggest cost in producing skis.

I swear I saw their thread too.
