Best Skiing in Colorado/Utah

Personally I hate vail as well as beaver. I think you should consider the drive to A Basin, Keystone, Breckinridge, or Copper. I have skied all of these many times and it kinda depends on what you like to ski as well as what time of year, A basin's park isn't prime but still fun and is amazing after a huge storm as well as early and late season(very cheap). Keystone offers less of a big mountain feeling, tons of intermediate runs but the park competes for my number 1 place to go busier than a bay and more expensive. Breck has it all, amazing hikes to typically always fresh snow tons of terrain and a killer park almost as good as keystones. On the weekends this place is a zoo wouldn't recommended and parking here is a joke, and hella expensive. Copper also offeres a ton of sick terrain including woodward and some super fun bowls, this place also gets packed on weekends but all in all super fun but also pricey. Snowbird and Alta don't actually have a ton of variety it's pretty much all steep and ungroomed

Aspen is a fun time for good big mountain stuff. I would just go there and not even bother staying in vail. Also closer to utah.

I agree with post above, I would go to Copper and A basin before Vail.

For utah spend one day at Alta and one day at Snowbird. Great mountains

I like Abasin much better than Vail or Beaver Creek. If I lived in Denver that is where I would spend my weekends. I have not been there in many years so I don't know about park. Can I ask where you live? If you live back east remember you can get park there, take advantage of being out west and go for some steeps. It's your choice of course, but that would be my suggestion.

I absolutely love Alta and Snowbird. Great steeps, a variety of different types of steep terrain (chutes, trees, some open stuff, some cliffs) and a ton of snow. I ski my weekends at Mammoth, and there are not many places I will travel to. I would not travel to ski Vail, it is big and flat. I have gone to Alta/Bird and it is absolutely sick, one of the best combinations of terrain and snow in North America.

Skiied in colorado my whole life. I'm personally a fan of Vail and Beaver Creek, but only very specific parts of the mountain not the mountain as a whole. If you get into the untouched parts of Vail in the back, you'll be in heaven, but if you stay on the crowded parts, you're in for a rough day. Beaver Creek is very touristy and snobby, but Stone Creek chutes are one of the best spots to ski on a gnarly powder day. Abasin is is a cool place, but is more of a ski bum type mountain and definitely colder weather. There is some wild stuff there no doubt. I would definitely stay away from breck and key because of how crowded they are, unless you're looking for a little park. All depends on what kind of feel you're going for. but if we're being honest, you can't go wrong here in Colorado in February.

Vail will kick you out when you do naked spreadeagles. 0/10

Everyone hates on Vail, but it's the best place to go in summit/eagle given a choice. Has the most variety of terrain, groomers for miles, places to scare yourself and places to get away from crowds. I've lived in CO and been to all the places suggested here and I would still pick Vail every time given I'm not paying full price. The shitty attitude people talk about at Vail is overblown.

Second choice would be Winter park.

I feel like if you hate beaver creek you dont know where to go. And by that I mean you haven't dipped into the trees because there's freshies everywhere weeks after the last storm. I think that was the least I ever had to work to find good snow. Parks aren't ridiculous but they usually have around 50 jibs and the jump line isny huge but is generally flowy. 36' ish for the biggest with some loft.

I think vail and bc are great choices right next to each other.

Vail's a fun resort, but the crowds and Robert Katz are just a few of the cons. Loveland and Copper are my favs. Abasin is IMO the best Vail resort within an hour of vail.

Crested Butte! If you're willing to be kind of isolated. CB low key has some of gnarliest best terrain in North America imo.

Idk about gnarliest but there is some sick shit there. Great all around mtn thought lacking in parks.

I would say if youre spending 3 days in Colorado for sure check out a-basin with one of them, its not a very big mountain so you should be able to explore the whole thing in one day, and if the snow is good hit it twice.

For another Colorado resort I would either say Keystone/Breck for the park, but Breck has better options then Keystone outside of the park.

Vail could be an option just to experience how massive it is, but to experience it you have to have someone show you around to the good spots.


Ive also spent a couple of weekends in Utah and I would say that Alta and Snowbird are very very different. I love both of them though. On my past 3 day trip to Utah I spent one day at Alta, which was enough to explore and show my friend all of the places but another day would have been nice to just enjoy the skiing. We then spent two days at Snowbird which is a massive resort and we could of easily skied there for 3 more days. Snowbird is super fun.

There is also the option for Snowbird and Alta to ski from resort to resort and I would honestly recommend you add the small fee to do that and be able to explore both resorts a little bit on the third day.
