That said, what are you looking for in a camera? Will you do lots of photography with some filming? Lots of filming with some photography? Split evenly?

Personally, I don't do any filming and I'm a Nikon guy. That kind of what I started with and am now pretty comfortable with the controls and general camera layout. Find what works for you. I also borrowed my brothers cheap dslr for a month or two to see if I would actually use it before making my own camera purchase. I ended up getting something nicer, but still used and affordable and used that for a couple years before upgrading again this past fall. Now I look more for glass (lenses) than bodies.

If you are just getting started, I wouldn't look too much into full frame unless you are planning on blowing up pictures and printing them. Image quality of crop sensors tend to be fairly comparable to full frame (especially smaller sized pictures) and glass is definitely pricier.

Also, get an editing program like Lightroom or Photoshop to you can touch up in post. It wis by help with composition, but can make a mediocre shot look pretty awesome. Just don't get carried away.

Thanks for the info man. i would most likely do photography with some filming, probably 60/40.

Could I ask what camera you have now? I am mainly just trying to see what is the most popular and liked that is out there. Full frame do you mean body and lens or what? I am just getting into photography so I am not too familiar with all of the terms.

I have access to all of the photoshop programs so I have done some simple photo editing and such on there

My friends and I film with a Nikon d3300 which all in all is decent. Only problem you'll have with them ia you have to invest in a mic, and I nice wide angle lenses would benefit you well.

Currently using a Canon FS300 for skateboarding but I gotta figure out how to convert the files from MOD to something playable on pc

If you're wanting to get into film with a nice camera, get a Panasonic GH3. If you're interested, I have one thats in mint condition that Im selling. Its a great camera for starting with film and I love the photos I get from it, they look quite filmic to me. @grantlewis_is_downtime is my gram if you want to see some of the clips and photos I have gotten from it. If you want more photography, Id go with a Nikon D3200 or D3300, both great photography cameras and not too expensive. I personally hate filming on anything Nikon, so Id just use it for photos.

Canon's video quality is meh.

If you can't drop money on a sony a7ii series camera then get a Sony a6300.

Tokina 11-16. One of the best lenses I have used. Great guy you can find somewhat cheap.

I mean Planet Earth 2 has portions filmed on Sony DSLR's that area actually affordable, so they're probably worth looking into if you're filming.

Otherwise look at other brands like Pentax as well. Maybe not the best filming cameras, but for still photography they're about 50% less for the Nikon/Canon equivalent. The new Pentax KP seems pretty cool. 1/24,000 electronic shutter speed and like 800,000 iso in a camera that's roughly 1000 bucks. Raw image quality is supposed to be about as good as you can ever get with APSC sensors.
