Backcountry Whistler

Hello NS.

I'm from Denmark and my friend & I are planning to move to Whistler BC, for approx. 2 winter seasons, and looking for a bit of help. We just finished our educations, and are both 20 years. We will start our journey october/november.

We haven't done a lot of research, but we don't want our skiing to be limited due to restrictions to backcountry skiing, as well as drone policies (the drone is not as important to our decision tho) - We've read that drones aren't allowed, does this mean at the resort only, or can we take it on our backcountry adventures? And is backcountry allowed at Whistler, what about outside of the resort?

PS. We're also looking for full time jobs, and a place to live - in case someone on here can help. :-)

For jobs/accommodation look at getting a job for Whistler Blackcomb itself, you get a pass and a chance to move into staff accommodation, housing situation there is a bit fucked and only getting worse. It's cheap and a good location (ski in/ski out) right by Base II. It's also heaps of fun a great place to party, just watch out for the Aussies!
Enjoy Whistler man, best 7 months of my life were spent there last winter and into a bit of spring/summer.

Honestly I haven't read up about the 'backcountry drone policies', but outside of resort boundaries you'll be fine to fly it. Most of the time you can even get away with using a mavic/karma or any small drone inside resort boundaries, as long as you can carry it up in a regular pack and you're not flying it in areas with heavier skier traffic.

Look up provincial park policies for BC. Much of your back country skiing will be done in the various provincial parks.

Allright man, thanks for the tips! We'll search into that, our interest is evening work to be able to ski mid-day :)

I think that's when most people want jobs... look at rental tech work, had a friend who did that, worked some nights some days tuning skis etc. Got about 100 freeskiing days with that job
