Everything about them the heat the sand the saltwater and worst of all the myriad amount of fat people. Don't understand why people spend thousands to go sit on them for a week. who's with me

It's free to go to the beach. Also the ocean usually makes it cooler so less heat. Wear your muddy boots and the sand will clean them up so they are all perfectly clean. Fun for dogs too and who wouldn't want to make their dog happy with a trip to the beach? I could go on. Very grateful all of our shoreline here in Oregon is designated as a public roadway so no one can ever restrict our free access to the beach.

I agree, the beach is lame. But, most people wont agree with us; heres their excuses:
- At least its not the office
- I can drink beer and do nothing
- Its a novelty
- Its my thing
- Its all I can afford
- I can meet chicks in bikinies
- Surfing is where its at

I don't really like swimming all that much and i'm not a huge fan of being in direct sunlight for extended periods of time but it's nice to sit, drink some beers with your buddies, and watch the water for a while.

Maybe you should stop going to the shitty "vacation" beaches where it's a million hotels and people sitting on too of each other. Lots of chill beaches even near the most popular areas.

Coastline is dope. Tons of beautiful landscapes. Hotel-marred party beaches aren't my thing, but hiking to secluded beaches in CA, OR, and WA is anything but lame.

I'm fair skinned with some hints of ginger. I also hate beaches. But I can see the appeal.

We do have some sweet beaches on Lake Superior in Northern MN. I enjoy them more at night with fire, beer and friends though.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that they suck, but they aren't my cup of tea. It's fun to relax every once in a while (like once a year) but I, like probably everyone else on here, am more of a mountain person and would rather be riding my mountain bike or doing then being lazy and laying around. Though I guess you can surf and kayak and stuff, so to each his or her own.

Nah but really, I loooove the beach, you just have to know where to go. Find the hidden spots, I've been on beaches in Tahoe that have like 10 other people there. Tourists are too lazy or too scared to hike, find all the drop-in spots.

As far as going away on beach vacations, busy spots are called tourist traps for a reason. My mom and I found a beach on Oahu where we were the only people on the entire beach! It was a public beach at a time of year where it's "vacation season". Just gotta know where to go.

this. tahoe has an insane amount of small (especially this winter), hike-in-only beaches that are so worth the minimal amount of effort to access. @OP, if you want to have a good time at the beach, put in the effort if your local beach spot will allow and source out the kind of atmostphere you're looking for. if the party scene is your jam, you'll have no problem finding it. if a more layed-back scene is what you and your girl like, talk to some locals and find the spot. google maps, local national parks department visitor centers, whatever.. all are great options.

Private beaches are where it is at, I stayed at a beach house in Maine for a couple of years and the beaches in the neighborhood were "private" meaning people could walk through by the water, but they weren't allowed to post up, it was so fucking nice.

Beaches on oceans are sweet but lakes and rivers beat the ocean imo. There's so much more to do, freshwater fishing, cliff jumping spots, rope swings, surrounding trails, etc. And some lakes still have small beaches. Only huge downside is that most every lake around here is loaded with seaweed

Unpopular opinion here: I hate swimming and being in the water. Partially because i cant swim, but i dunno, just not my thing. Im like a cat. If i wanna lounge in the sun, i have a sweet patio with a hammock. or id rather just go into the forest.

Beaches are badass if you've got the know for a non-tourist beach. I mean it's like....the exact fucking same as skiing. You take some kook from Texas who take a weekend and goes to Heavenly/Breckenridge, etc at peak times. They're going to come away and say "fuck skiing, that shits, cold, crowded, and I only got like four runs in. Plus its expensive."

But if you live near the mountains, you know where the stashes are. You know where to go and how to time it.

Don't hate on the beach because you take a four day trip to Laguna Beach and shit your board shorts.

Hehe Cleveland Ohio has the guts to say that they have beaches on Lake Erie. They are super nasty and there aren't even waves unless its super windy. The lake is going to be super green with algae this year since it never froze over the winter since it was nothing but rain. My family always goes on these beach vacations that I hate. Turns out my dad hates them too so I don't even know why we go on them.

Top tip. If you wanna get rowdy Wisconsin point is a better beach. No one lives out there. No curmudgeons to call the cops.

If you drive up the shore a bit Split Rock has an awesome beach same with Silver Bay's Onyx Beach. Who knew MN had a black beach.

Depends on the beach. If it is some tourist area with hotels lining the shore for miles, then yea, count me out. But it can be nice to chill. Ideally, if there is beach, there may be scuba diving nearby. Scuba dive then chill? Sounds like a good time.
