Alpine Touring Adapters

I am looking for some Touring Adapters because I dont do much backcountry, I know about the trekkers which are discontinued, cant find them anywhere. I also know about the daymakers, is there anything else out there at a cheaper price?

Get the new cast bindings, same price as a normal binding and works like a normal binding just swaps for a tech toe piece when touring and boot conversions are available.
This way if you do decide to get serious you already have the gear if you don't, whatever just use the normal look toe piece. https://casttouring.com/products/pivot-freetour

If this doesn't tickle your fancy and is still too much commitment then go for the daymakers, haven't tried them but I feel like they'd be your best bet.

Replace your bindings to AT setup. They are just as good as alpine bindings, even if you wont use them too much. The only downside will be the weight issue. Marker Baron 13 is a solid recommendation. I can park the shit out of those, then take em higher up the mountain the next day

Yeah I rock a pair of these too. They're a great option if you ski on the mountain a good amount and then only do shorter tours, or feel like you can tough it out with the weight. You also don't need to shell out for new boots too.

A lot of skiers don't want to ski park with a plate binding however. In addition to the bonus weight breaking shit is way more likely and expensive.

Trekkers suck especially when traversing you'll be really stoked when your ski pops off an you have to ski down on one ski. Also having to pack the trekkers in your pack is not fun as well.


Coming from someone who has used trekkers for way to long get the cast system literally the best of both worlds. I don't trust two pins holding me to my ski. good luck start saving

I used to think this too, but now I think most people who are looking at the CAST system probably want to use alpine boots but with tech inserts added by a bootfitter

Yup. This. Also I do believe you can send your boot into cast and they will drill it for you.

adapter do not suck as much as some people say. It helps if you have some skinning/cross country skiing skill.

I would not plan on long technical tours to bag peaks. if you want to do that get AT boots and pin bindings.

skinning out a mile or two to build a jib, jump, or ski some mini golf lines they are great. I have used them lots in that scenario and love them.

pin tech, adapters, and plate style all have their time and place. eventually you might want all 3. adapters are a great, relatively cheap place to start.

I do not recommend skiing park on AT bindings. they are heavy, change ski flex a little bit, and you will break them.

Just to clarify, you must mean a framed binding like Marker Dukes or Salomon trackers, because pin bindings are much lighter. And then the Marker Kingpin changes the game... While I don't think anyone would recommend riding a lot of park on those, if you lock the toe you can take a couple laps a few times a year.

but I agree that OP can start small and use DayWrekkers to start

I would probably say the same thing about the Duke's. It's not that they would more prone to breaking than normal bindings in the park, it's just more like why are you riding your 450 dollar bindings in the park that would be so dumb if you broke them.

There's boot conversions available no need to buy new boots haven't done one but I assume it would be pretty easy it's just 2 holes in the side of your boot with inserts.

I've faced the same decision, but found after trying both an alpine trekker and a marker baron for a day, it was much better on the Baron, so i managed to pick up a pair of volkls aura's with barons for $300, took the bindings and sold the skis for $250, now i'm just waiting for the snow here in nz to get good enough.
Looking at pin bindings is a good idea, but from discussion with others a problem that people found was the socket for the pin would wear out quickly and they would have to​buy new inserts evry season.
