Measles outbreak

Last week, the community college I have been attending, has reported one of my classmates got diagnosed with measles. For those who have heard about measles for the first time:

Hes been having a cold since day one of the course and 9 days later he was quarantined. Now, the rest of us are getting regular phone calls from health care providers to check if we have developed symptoms. So far. everyone in the course was vaccinated twice and none of us have been infected...but the college closed for decontamination. Its not cool because I payed 2 000$ for the 3 week course. The sad part is the guy who contracted measles's wife is pregnant and not vaccinated. I hope no complications arise for them.

I want to take this chance to remind everyone to get their shots, you will help prevent outbreaks and not have to suffer for 3-4 weeks to beat it when someone around you spreads it.

I believe that people refusing vaccination for defeated diseases is our answer to a growing world population. Darwin gets it.

We're under herd immunity for a lot of diseases. Shitty but....im vaccinated haha

It is a really hot topic in public health right now and I absolutely can t stand people who don't do it. There is no reason not to. Absolutely none.

It's really not though. It's a hot topic in the community of people who aren't doctors and that's about it. Just like anything else, the internet has become an outlet for "professionals" to blog about whatever hair brained bullshit they developed allegiance to. Medical professionals overwhelmingly recommend vaccination because it's the biggest no brainer in the medical world next to "drink water or you'll die" and "sugar is not good".

Yes and that is exactly why it's such a public health issue. We have every internet wannabe doctor spreading misinformation...which the masses eat up like candy. It is the responsibility of public health to stop this and insure vaccinations. It's a huge issue on how to get those rich white vegetarian moms to vaccinate.

I hate anti-vax logic.....it isn't even logic.

Health care professionals consider a person immune if they have been born before 1970, receive 2 MMR vaccines or been infected before. Before 1970, the virus was very common and many people believed that getting measles as kids is just as safe as having chicken pox. After 1970, the vaccines were available, but only 1 of the 2 was used. It was only in the 90's when the 2 shots were used before kindergarten.

Remember that most people dont know the difference between a bacterial infection and a viral infection. They dont understand the difference between the 2 and methods of treatment. Hell, I still get told that not wearing a tuque in winter will give me the cold! Or flue can be beat by antibiotics...
