Hiking up when chairs are closed

Hey so me and a buddy want to hike up east summit at Snoqualmie and ski down just for fun and we were wondering, since it is illigal, how much do people actually care and would we get in serious trouble if we got caught? Thanks

seems to be ok at snoqualmie. looks like they're not cool with it at alpental, which seems strange, but maybe they don't want people hiking to the permanent-closure stuff? either way, you should be good as long as you're not drawing too much attention to yourselves

You're on national forest land. Those uphill travel rules only apply when snowcompton is open during the season.
After that is whatever you want

It all depends on the mtn. But many places are pretty chill. A lot of bigger mountains have their uphill policy listed on the website where it's easy to find.

As mentioned you can always call a place and ask. Or just show up and send it. The worst that will happen is somebody comes out of some building and shuts you down. If that happens just be nice.

This is true, if the resort you want to hike is on national forest (example utah resorts: brighton, alta) then you can hike up before/after season. Places like snowbird and park city have privately owned land, so they don't want you hiking up.

I'd guess Snoqualmie is public land, meaning uphill travel is cool whenever. Alpental must be private

Looks like you are good to go at Alpy too. As I understand it "operational season" is when they are working on the hill which extends past the time they turn lifts etc. This source says Alpy allowed uphill as of the 12th.

That is more for like hiking up on Monday when they could potentially be bombing. A guy I work with loves to fight with patrol about touring in the ski area, I don't understand why patrol would care one way or another if the area is closed, it's not like there's going to be anyone there to come save you.

I just toured around silver Fir last Saturday, there were like 2 or 3 other casual groups, no one cared at all it was fun.

I skinned to the top of Alpy last week on a Saturday. I saw at least 3-4 other groups on the hill, along with some sort of ice climbing group practicing off a cat track. There was not a single patroller/employee from what I could tell, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

I guess that if its private land they could be in some way liable for you if you hurt yourself in bounds by say hiking into avvy terrain or a spot they haven't bombed yet

It's all Mt Baker Snoqualmie National Forest but yeah they would be liable if they let you up there and exploded a cornice above you or something.
