from huck to style to progression.

I don't know about everybody else, but I notice every year it's something new. Although there are always a bunch of core guys on skis that are progressing all of the time. I find that every year there is something different thats in. This year has been a focus on progression, from taking the park to the back country, to adding tricks and huge spins on rails, all the pros have been trying new tricks that are pushing this sport beyond it's limits.

It is obvious that skiing no longer has limits, and it's awesome, it's so cool to watch the variety of people doing stuff ten years ago you would of never thought would be happening.

What do you guys think will be the trend in the next couple years, do you think its gonna calm down any, or do you think were just gonna keep on seeing a lot more crazy ass shit getting thrown down? Are we gonna start focusing on style more and more, are we just gonna start throwing ourselves off some of the biggest most dangerous jumps cliffs and drops or do you think were people will just start trying new things, trying to be the first to do something? I personally think your gonna have a variety of different people going a variety of different ways, i think it will no longer be newschool skiing, i think the sport will get so big and diverse, that the only way we can describe it is:

Skiing.

I personally cant wait until that day comes.

i would say style, but i kinda agree about the whole newschool thing. i think that once all the old recreational skiers die off that it will just become skiing again. but that will take a couple years.

I see this as a potential thread that wil cause some cool discussion. Umm, I don't have much to say other than this: doesn't seem like we willkinda go in a cycle again? Heres what I mean: for a season or two there will be some insane tricks, very technical and hucked. Then everyone will start talkng about style again and start doing those tricks large, slow and smooth. The it starts the cycle again the season after with more hucked tricks that will later be made stylie.

Also I think that the equipment will become very technical and there will be more advancements towards new technology with the skis, boots, bindings poles and myabe there will even be a new necessity...

as mike douglas said- skiers are doing every imaginable tricks on tables, skiing the most insane lines ever...but tricks off cliffs and halfpipe has progresed to its fullest yet. urban jibs ahve not progressed to its fullest.

im not sure about skiings future progressing, but skateboardings still around after all these years, so skiing probally will too.

there is no doubt skiing is stronger then ever, and it's never gonna die off, i just mean what kind of things do you think people are gonna start doin, i don't know how much farther people can go before we start puttin our lives on the line, although some already are.

well, when i first started skiing at like 5 years old, I could bust out like 1440s and shit, then as i got a little older, like 7, i could only do 1080s! i was like, what the hell? now I'm 18, and can't even get off the ground. i think skiing will basically follow my pattern, and get more and more disabled, awkward, and retarded.

Word up to all the subie owners out there!

Yea urban jibbing hasn't fully devloped close to its full potential, have you ever seen a snowboard video's urban jibs, some of the stuff is so creative and insane.

Skateboarding is like that, cycles between technical and burly. I think the huck/style cycle is pretty much what will happen. Yea I hope to see a lot more cornice/cliff jumps with tricks like mike d and jon from propaganda. I remember seeing the pbp trailer and tanner w/ that zero off the cliff. I also think maybe more difficult stuff onto rails, like bigger kickers to rails, so you'll see more different spins onto rails.

urban jibbing is coming farther than you think though, check the strike 3 trailer again, those east coast fuckers have taken it to another level, no jp walker, but definatly getting there.

I totally agree with the whole cycle thing, i thnik that the backcoutry is gonna be the ew playing groud with more swith stuff, we will also see alot more kids come through and the judging will become beter as more of the big guns(mike d, shane, jp etc.)retire, im not saying them specifically but people who really know whats doing will become judges. I also think that skis will become more like pocket rockets and scratch bc's, fatter lighter, true all mountain ski.

seriously, spiinning unto rail started way before last year, it was just not shown before...

as for 'style' most of those who are super smooth with unique style did not get recognition...
I'd say way more skiers will be seen next year

i think its almost over, new tricks will dwindle away, spins wont go bigger, maybe if some people do variations of existing tricks then there will be others. half pipe will progres, ex. dave crichton WSSI super hit. skiers will never get to the point snowboarders were like 5 years ago on rails, there is one way skis can slide rails 2 feet sideways, one foot just looks gay, and there are about 100 on a board.

-jon, skiing the ice so the other half of the country doesnt have to.

Yea dirty, I meant to say something about strike 3, i have the trailer on my computer and I loved second generation and all it's jibbing goodness as well. I just remember seeing one snowboard video where a guy was towed in with a truck, hit a kicker, he proceeded to jump over a 9 foot wall, where there was a down slanting rail on the other side of the wall that he slid. Imagine combining spinning w/ that.

you need to progress on some stuff. look at skateboarding, there making new grabs every day. i want to see a new line of creavtive flips and grabs from you guys next year.
