Replying to remote/wireless speakers

i have way to much music on my computer to burn it all onto cd's, and i only have an ipod mini, so that doesnt accomodate all of my music either. my computer is upstairs in our office, i do most of my lounging in the basement. my dad mentioned something about remote speakers, but i dont know much about it. is there any way to hook any sort of speaker system into my computer, and then run the speakers down to my basement?
