Ask Dr. NS: Lower/Mid Back Pain

Being a 29yr old avid park skier, I've been feeling some pretty rough aches and pains lately, specifically in my lower/mid back. Its in a really awkward spot just below my shoulder blade ('scapula' I think?) and towards the center. Feels like a pinching and then spasm sensation along those two long muscles that run down the sides of your spine; basically impossible to stretch from everything I've tried. Tried the foam roller as well, dunno if mine is too firm but it didn't seem to provide any relief either.

I've got an appointment with a PT tomorrow, but before I go in I was hoping for those with some experience with similar issues to share their story. How do you stretch and treat your back issues? Photos/pics encouraged, explaining stretches verbally can get rough

Not a doctor.

But I had similar sensations when I had two stress fractures in my back. Felt like muscle cramps that I just couldn't get rid of. No matter the stretches.

If the PT doesn't see anything it could be a possibility...could bring it up

This is just another sad attempt at an injury-claim thread. Don't you have friends who can be sympathetic instead of a bunch of random jackasses on the internet?

No, something a kid on the internet says is not going to change my thoughts on a doctor's professional opinion. However, if someone knows a stretch or exercise that maybe the doctor or I am not familiar with, I would consider potentially adding it to whatever routine my PT gives me (after asking their professional opinion on it). Personal anecdotes can actually be useful sometimes, especially within a community of people who participate in the same high-impact sport.

Not sure what satisfaction I would get from 'claiming' my injury; my back hurts because I'm old, end of story.

I've seen much better trolls from you in the past, you can do better.
