Ok so Im in the market for a pow ski. I want something very jibby with good float (like some of the JJs), but still is very chargeable (Norwalk) around the 110-120 waist range. So this combo led me to the magic J but it is so wide underfoot. Ill mainly use these for inbound skiing sun valley, so steep and deep, but tight trees and a lot of pillows and cats. However I might use thes out of bounds or on short tours. So my main question is who has the 1st gen (13/14) Majic J and knows how it skis and if its what I'm looking for. Also Im 5'11'' 130 pounds but ski very aggressively so I think a 190 majic J because I even ride my park ski at or above my head. Will take other recommendations but Id like to keep it in armada unless there is a 120 waist on3p pillow fight out there for me.
honestly i think there are better skis out there for you. a lot of skis will do better in variable snow..aka resort. moment bibby pro, atomic bentchetler, on3p jeffrey. I would suggest the older chets...like 2011 model...they are stiffer but still playful, and there are plenty floating around for super cheap. the 193s charge hard for a playful ski.

I skied mostly inbounds this season and couldn't recommend them more
not really much of a charger imo. im a walking advertisement for most armada skis but their 5 point big mtn offerings all want to make dad turns and seem to hate going straight
im biased on this but i even thought my norwalks 2-3 inches taller than me felt like snowblades compared to other big mtn skis ive used
I have all the skis you mentioned and love them all but I think your best bet is to wait for next years armada arv 116 that is replacing the jj

Sound advice^^^ . I have older Bents and they seem pretty good on variable conditions though my main comparison is Rossi Soul 7 dad skis. Bentchetlers are usually heavy enough to chard crud but they're playful enough to whip conditions that normally call for a narrower ski than their +/- 120mm footprint. You might like something like the K2 Shreditor 112, but it won't float you as well on a true deep pow day.
Bibby's are stiff boards which can be great or terrible depending on what you want to do--not very Jibby by comparison.... JJ's are fine but their geometry still favors a rearward mount, lessening the jibbiness. Shreditor 112's are pretty awesome skis and I know a couple guys that ski them on deep pow days, yet they may be too narrow for what you want and you'll have to get them used since 2016 was their last hurrah.

It's not like anyone can't straight line on them, it's more just that they have a tiny radius and like to pop and skid around over stuff, not lock into big powerful turns with a bigger radius. Their geometry just isn't what makes a ski chargey, it's hardly even a subjective claim. Liking them/having a style that jives with them or not is the subjective part
I'm still changing my mind in every direction but i am In love with those wood bentchetlers with the paradise base so I'll look into this and maybe some JJ zeros tbh I am such an armada whore. And the widest ski I've ever ridden is a 98 slat which has been my kind of park all over and pow ski, I ride it in the backcountry after a 2+ foot storm so maybe I should get a pair of black ops and I do have really good connections at Rossignol so idk

Hmm alll right well I am far from joking when I say I have less than 0 dollars right now so if I did just know if we cut a deal it would have to be traded only and the more I look at the black ops the better it looks and I know for sure I can get 35% off whole on them and a good chance I could get them free which is a very hard deal to beat but like I said I'm an armad whore and would love to come look at em

Icelantic Nomad 115 or 125? Worth a look imo because they are chargy when needed but still slashable and able to turn in trees with ease. Also the Atomic Chets and Automatic 117s would be good skis to check out because they seem up your alley.

Honestly I would say get the Magic Js or the new ARV 116 if you want to stay with armada. The magic J rips actually.. and I have been hearing really good things about the new ARV 116.. they look fun too.

Then it would defeat the purpose of the JJ. A quick, playful powder ski.
If you want something more chargier from armada get the ARV 116 or the magic J.

Yeah well I don't know I plan to build this ski in my mind over the summer and see how it goes, but the magic J is just too wide and this imaginary ski would not replace the JJ just be an addition. Imo I rode a pair of magnums for a day and idk bamboo skis are not for me based off that experience however, I have a lot of interest in a kartel 108 mainly I want a pair of 181 kartel 108s with the pillow fight top sheet but Im broke (cough cough if someone from on3p cough kim cough sees this help me out I dont want to be that kid that screams sponsor me but sponsor me).

They do but as said above they also want to make dad turns I guess. I mean the ideal pow ski for me is a 115ish waist, 21m-ish radius. Flex: 5/6/7 tip, 7/8 tail, 8/9 underfoot (gets progressively softer as you go out from underfoot with no buckle points). Profile I want a very small amount of camber with a large amount of tip rocker and medium amount of tail rocker but with a very tall tail. I want the tail to sink a bit but the nose to float a lot, race base, dope graphics and pretty poppy, still charges on groomers and through crud. I know its a tall order so something would probably have to be given up, unless you got customs or you built them yourself (im attempting to build it this summer.) But idk if any company makes that ski so. IMO the 2013 spaceman norwalks are worth it just because they are hot as fuck and id just deal with a small tail.

Used to work for them but they moved out to Golden, CO and I couldn't leave Oregon. Make a solid product and you can work with Kristin to design a dope top sheet and Mike with all the ski specs and details.

I think the norwalks are around 21 radius but yes they want to make dad turns and I had the 189s, wouldn't recommend em if you're into charging

Lol wait, take a look at the Moment Jaguar Sharks from a few years back. Pretty much exactly what you're looking for. They pretty much are the Belafontes with a 115 waist and softer overall flex pattern. Still chargy af and have the dropped tail, minimal camber, and big tip rocker.

buddy owns these...pretty dope ski actually and definitely pretty close to what he wants. They are quite a few years old though, so they might be a little hard to find but they are definitely a dope ski.

For the right price id sell mine lol. Haven't actually ridden them yet but picked up a pair at a ski swap last week and have been stoked to try them out. From just inspecting they look like a solid big mtn ski. Definately a little stiffer in the tails but the tips are softer. The rocker amount looks perfect for those days where the pow sticks aren't quite worth it but you definitely don't want to take out some of the skinnier sticks.

Yeah see people have it all wrong, why would you bring a huge ski into bottomless pow just to float the top 6''. You want tip that pops up while the tail gets in there a bit so you can get it #pitted #faceshots #bro that way you can have a wide radius ski for choppin it up or charging but still have that playfull feel, especially with a soft nose for #LitButterBro but with a stiffer tail you can kind of depend on it when you get a little backseat yet its poppy enough you can really ollie up onto those pillows the size of you. Anyway I already have the graphics for it, ill post em below.

Yeah I think I've heard of them, seem super cool and great pricing. But if for some reason I wanted customs and I didnt build them I probably go WU banger. They make the tightest shit and my coach rides for them so they sponsor the team and we get half off so you can get a pair of custom skis for like 500.

true I did these a while ago and since he has come out with some sweet new ones, but I already have them printed, so maybe gen 2. Id like to do some graphics other than Cy stuff tho.
