Best skiing in Tahoe

squaw or kirkwood for big mountain. Cant even compare much else except donner ski ranch obviously.

Homely vibe...Homewood...can kinda include Alpine...but alpine has that KSL vibe still. Rose is up there too...its pretty chill...has the chutes too.

Heavenly is pretty wack. Sierra is real dope...but not exactly the best in any catagory....sick park some sick terrain. Sugar bowl is dope as well for terrain...just smaller and not on the same level as Kwood or Squaw.

if I can only pick one mountain thats alpine for sure... kirkwood and squaw are super fun but such a big hassle

Alpine for fall/winter....squaw for spring when all the Kooks go back to the beach and you can actually get turns in.

Alpine is sick, some real good sends and terrain in there

This time of year squaw for sure. They'll be open on July 4 and there park is just getting good

yeah squaw is the sickest but alpine is almost as sick and has such a chiller vibe and layout

kirkwood is really good

sugar bowl is really good

northstar has sick parks but not much else compared to neighbors

sierra is sick

heavenly is cool but doesnt have the terrain and steeps that squaw etc offer

mt rose is pretty sick for sure but again it can't top squaw etc

I always forget about tree skiing. They definitely have the best trees. No doubt about it

Boreal- the dive bar of Tahoe ski resorts. Cheap if you're trying to ski a ton. Always crafting the park.
OG Squaw valley for real skiing hands down

I did my ski bum years at Squaw so I will agree with the majority. Having said that, Kirkwood is insane, one of the best mountains on the continent. I will also give Sugar Bowl some props, a small mountain with great steeps.

My thoughts, having skied here for a few seasons now:

Kirkwood is my favorite. Unbelievable terrain, but kind of a pain to get to, even from South Lake, not to mention the valley.

Squaw/Alpine are good too, and it's nice that your season pass will get you big mountain and park in one place.

And agreed with the post above that said Boreal - $15 tickets on Friday with a college ID. Bring your old one, they don't look too hard. Fucking love that place.

Boreal is such a weird place haha. It's like you took a tiny east coast park mtn and just stuck it on top of donner pass for no reason.

It's got great prices, hours, chill vibe, good park...only downside is more dickish wannabes than you're used to seeing in tahoe. Literally the only place I've seen skier vs boarder hate in years. But oh well

im born and raised in the area (23 years) and can say that kirkwood and squaw easily have the most challenging in-bounds skiing in the area. i have never held a pass to squaw, so i cannot speak as comfortably about it as i can with kirkwood, but i do know that i have never been more challenged than i have at squaw and kirkwood. eagles nest at squaw is insanity.

skied mt. rose this year and had some of the best powder days in years skiing the chutes. there was one day, a saturday, where the resort had been closed for five days due to the highway being snowed in, and finally they opened up the chutes. seven feet of powder felt pretty damn good.

kirkwood is amazing and my favorite resort in the tahoe basin for so many reasons, even after vail acquired it. i wont go into detail but if you can make the drive, its always worth it.

heavenly is pretty shitty unless you know where to go. killebrew and motts canyons are the most challenging zones and are comparable to some areas of kirkwood and squaw. the mountain is insanely huge and like i said earlier, if you know where to go, you'll have a good time and can avoid the masses. three and more years ago the park was amazing, the last three seasons it has gone sharply downhill as vail caters more to the vacation clientel and less to the locals.

northstar arguably one of the best parks in tahoe. last season they had at their max 82 features, non stop top to bottom on a high speed 4 banger, giving you a run lasting like 3-4 minutes without stopping of non-stop features. its amazing. other than that, its basically shit. there is a sweet zone called "the stash" which can be great after a storm.

boreal is god awful if you arent trying to ski park. if you are, youll have a really good time and can ski from like 9a-9p. plus its cheap, and the vibe is unlike any other in tahoe, sans sierra or kirkwood.

Definately Squaw and Kirkwood, but some of the best runs are at Diamond Peak. Surprised nobody mentions that place.
