Should I get pivots bindings?

I'm getting new skis so I obviously need bindings too. I've only ever known of pivot bindings, but nothing about them. What are some pros and cons to them?

Up to the pivot 18 the week piece moved so when you fall it can help with ejecting from the dis. The pivot 18 for piece also moves. They are built pretty good. Brakes at times will bend but all bindings good that. Overall they are my binding of choice.

getting bindings depends on skill level and size. If you are younger then any bindings in the 12-13 din range will hold you over for years until you break them probably.

These are the most popular bindings in the market since they can work for almost everyone. Most kids don't need 14+ bindings. I have 18s on most of my skis and I only run an 11-13 din but I have them since they have more metal. That is the sole reason or I would be perfectly content spending way less money on a cheaper binding. I break shit too much man.

Pros: smoothest release, highest elasticity so you can run a lower din than normal.
Cons: Hard to step in in deep snow, brakes are not the greatest.

Pros:
+Low stack height (your boot sole is close to the ski)
+Smooth release from the heel is really nice (it feels more gentle and you ease out of the binding vs other bindings where you snap out more)
+Durability, Din 12 and 14 versions have metal heel piece so very durable. Din 18 has a metal toe but isn't as elastic as the new din 14 and 12 toes i believe.
+One of the highest binding elasticity on the market (STH2 has more i think) which makes for a consistent release and prevents pre-release

Cons:
-Brakes are excessively hard and expensive to replace. I haven't broken mine but they look and feel kinda fragile i wouldn't want to crash switch too much.
-Usually the most expensive binding on the market by a good $50-$100 when the STH2 is comparative in terms quality and elasticity
-Harder to adjust which is only important if you're doing it yourself
-Kinda annoying to get into if there is any snow on your boots sole/deep snow clogging it up
-No real "click" in.

If your looking at them i would consider the Solomon/Atomic STH2 pretty comparable and i believe the Tyrollia binding is similar although ive never ridden it. I would buy the cheapest of the 3/which ever one your store stocks if it comes with a free mount, unless money is no object personally.

P.S didn't look up the elasticity just writing from memory

Pivots are fucking life. I've had some on my last 3 pairs of skis. Don't know if I will ever buy another binding. Super durable and the smoothest and safest release. Used to have squires a few seasons ago and broke them literally 5 times in one season. The only con I have about them is their a little heavy compared to some other bindings.

Owned a pair of attacks after my squires and still broke them a few times. Only have ever broken a part on fks's once. I also ski over 100 times a year and don't go easy on my equipment so that may be why.

I'd try and find a lighter binding. Also like previously stated, if you land backseat, there's a chance of dildoing yourself.

Weight isn't really going to be an issue if you are a skier who needs an 18 din but the steel 16 sth bindings are

Take a dump before you go skiing and you'll the wieght difference won't matter. You can use something else, I'll always use FKS/Pivot. The tiny amount of extra weight is totally justified.

the breaks on both of mine have bent after one season, one I was able to get back in the other I couldn't get back into shape even after taking the binding apart. Have to say I loved these bindings but they are very tough to repair an expensive to replace

weight is underfoot, doesnt matter as much. Also they are a burly ass binding....if you are in the need of a full metal 18 din binding you wont be worrying about weight.

also the sth16 steels are heavier i do believe.

All the cool kids have pivots, so if you want to be cool you better get pivots.

All jokes aside, they are the perfect hard snow binding. I agree with everybody who commented on this thread.

I dont mind the weight at all... freshies was implying they arent that heavy but the reality is even though they are the heaviest 18 din alpine binding on the market, their performance makes the weight a moot point for most of us
