DooberzSo what I am asking is, is the Internets tendency to allow us to see only what appears to be relevant to what we want to see and our own tendency to set things up things on social media sites and such to only see what we want to see making us mono-minded. Simply because we are only seeing the things that support our own positions making us more stuck in one train of thought and unwilling to be able to see another world view.
Mr.BishopConformation bias or something like that.
Yes.

milk_manYou're 100% right. Society breeds a singular wolrdview. Look at most big cities. Ethnically diverse, but idealogically they're not as diverse.
K-Dot.What? Big cities have way more diversity in ideology than rural areas. Besides, what is ethnicity beyond ideology?
milk_manWhaaa? Look at how my small town voted in this election vs. San Francisco, or even Minneapolis (I live in MN). The counties around Minneapolis were something like 70/30 while my county was like 51/49. But what I'm talking about is places like San Francisco or NYC. San Fran was like 90/10
K-Dot.Presidential elections are hardly a good measure of diversity in ideology. You're literally forced to categorize your views into one of two options which does not reflect people's opinions well at all. It's no wonder why there is so much polarization.
A better way of looking at it is the amount of diversity in religion in an area. You ever see a mosque in a rural area? Are there gay pride parades in rural areas? Cities tend to be more inclusive of various lifestyles just based on their nature of being central points for commerce, medicine, etc.

Mr.BishopI went for the high brow response.
Swandog7I have my final exam for AP Psychology next week and I have no fucking clue what in doing. On the bright side, my ski season starts in about 6-7 months
Mr.BishopBeautiful part about life is you'll figure it all out.
milk_manSociety has a skewed view of what diversity is. A lot of people would say the Castro in San Francisco is a very diverse place. It's absolutely not. It's probably the least diverse place in America. I've been there. It was uncomfortable. Anyone who isn't like them doesn't belong there. Diversity? According to society, yes. Because society is stupid
