Traveling with a 10' surfboard???

Planning a trip in july to vancouver island, flying from southern california. I ride a ten foot log, and really wanna bring it with me as i don't really wanna rent some shit box eight foot 2+1 shop board. Any way i can do this? Most airlines seem to have a length restriction of like 9'7"...

You could probably look into mailing it there or something. But that would probably be hella expensive.

Its oversized and you'll likely be fucked. Last time i flew with my surfboard was like 10 years ago. Now ill just borrow, rent, or buy one and sell it when i leave. Cost me 100 each way across the states. Not worth it.

Check every airline luggagr policy and see if you can find something.

Road trip through Oregon and Washington surfing and biking or something along the way! especially since you really need a vehicle on the island. Especially if you want to surf

If it was just me i'd be into it...big family reunion sorta deal. My moms idea of a road trip and camping nowadays is a two hour drive to the hotel. Flying into van to see family, and then renting a car and ferrying/driving to cox bay

Ship it? Go to a surf shop and ask if they have surfboard boxes from a shipment of boards they got in. That may end up being exceptionally expensive, especially to canada, but I don't know what the airline is charging you. Are they actually going to check? All my boards are like 5'4" and my longboard is 8' so I've never encountered this issue.

Good excuse to buy something cool in the 8-9 foot range?

I figured i needed a rad 6-7' single fin egg in my life anyways. But i also need a new pair of skis this summer.

And most airlines we've looked at have a length limit of 9'6". Six inches is a big difference
