Edge replacement attempt

So long as you accept these are now beater skis god for it. With big repairs like this you will never get them to a point that they are as good as before. Replacing edge on park skis I have always found to be rather pointless. If you plan on using the ski on rails again you will rip the section right out and if you screw it in like you plan you may well destroy the core in the process too. I would try this as an experiment to see what you can do but don't expect it to fix the skis perfectly.

As for the edge replacement I have never done one so I can't comment on that, however my friend had a 10" chunk of replacement edge and it tore out pretty quick since he used them as beater skis. It's never gonna be as strong so you gotta be a little carful around rocks n such. After it tore out we tried to fill the entire section with epoxy, which has also since torn out. But they still slide on snow so he still uses them almost every day and just doesn't give a fuck about more damage.

I did a base patch last season and it went super well, until I handed it to a shop to finish it. It's a pretty simple process, just cut out the exact size patch you need to fill the negative, the simpler and smoother negative shape you create the better, and lay down some epoxy and clamp it down with a scraper to keep it flat-ish. When it is cured though the new base material will probably be a little higher than the surrounding material. It is EXTREMELY important that you bring down this raised section to close to the surrounding area as possible with a file or planer or something. I failed to do this and when I took it in to get a base grind the shop monkey did not know to do this and ended up grinding my base on an angle and by the time that the replacement side was at the same level as the surrounding material the opposite edge and base material had been ground completely down through to the core. They ended up replacing my 4 year old Liberty Morphics with a new pair of Sequences which was tight but the whole process ended up taking about a year due to miscommunication and stuff being out of stock.

Update on the progress, i cut the edge with a hack saw and superglued the edge into place so it doesn't move when screwing the screws in. I drilled the holes and tried to screw the screws in, but my bits are too big for the screw heads so i ordered a new head online for a few dollars. The edge seems to fit pretty seemlessly with no noticable gaps or anything. Remember i am just doing this to get by and earn some money for new skis, not trying to make my skis like new. I think it will go well but i can see some trouble with attatching the new base material on. Oh well its fun to DIY and come up with solutions.

Not really, screwing in a new peice of edge causes stress concentration at the screw threads, compared to the even laminated bond of an original edge. So if the replacement has any sort of impact the stresses are transferred to the fasteners rather than the material surrounding the impact.
