itsJacobcraiglist is very good for looking for a new truck im 16
.MASSHOLE.Real question is, do you want one or do you need one?
itsJacobI need and want one a truck is more convienent than a small car because I can put my skis and my friends skis in the bed of the truck and I can put all my stuff in the back, I want one that is jacked up I just found one for 20 grand that has 80k miles on it. It's a black gmc has about 13 grand of custom work into it it's suck and a good deal

daannnnieellet me ask you two questions before I give you any advice towards you wasting all of your money.
do you know how to fix, and maintain a turbo-diesel engine and drive train?
do you like the idea of having a garbage work truck that is literally broken when you buy it?
itsJacobMy dad basically teaching me on how to maintain a duramax, it aint a work truck though

MinggJust make sure you're about to use it to its potential and not waste a ton of unnecessary money. At the end of the day you're either cashing money for a work truck or for a brand (maybe both) - make sure its what you want/need.
Remember it will probably be pretty damn expensive. However, most employers (if they require a work vehicle) will compensate for the truck so that's something to consider. If you want it for your own personal use, then you don't need any justification other than for your own shenanigans.

I'm not tryna discourage you from buying a dirtymax; they are a great truck. Realistically a power joke, chummins, and dirtymax are all a safe bet this day and age.

uturnListen kid, diesel trucks are great, but the reality of it is, you don't need it. Don´t drop 20k of mommy and daddys money to buy a truck that you know nothing about (which is obviously the case). Unless you plow or pull a trailer all youre doing is throwing away money on avlot of wasted power. Take it from someone who´s had plenty of friends go down that path, for god knows what reason. My suggestion, buy a nice midsize truck (ranger, tacoma, etc) and lift it as high as your little heart desires, even that will probably be more truck than you need

.MASSHOLE.And chances are, that $20,000 truck with sub-100,000 miles is either a plow truck or work truck. I'd stay away from that if I were in your shoes.
And if you're in the northeast, look for rust.
That listing and those conditions have me somewhat suspicious.
itsJacobIm paying for 3/4 of the truck so im paying 15 grand
itsJacobI live in the midwest

.MASSHOLE.Not sure if they salt where you are then, but still a consideration if they do.
Is the title salvaged? What kind of cab is it? Is it 4x4? That price doesn't make sense to me given that it's less than 80,000 miles and a Duramax.
If you're looking for validation from people on this board on buying a Duramax, you won't find it. You don't need it.
You're not towing, plowing, or even using the bed for any heavy gear. You don't need the extra HP, the benefit from diesel is going to be negligible, and frankly you don't even need the lift.
You're 16. You're going to do dumb shit, you're going to make mistakes in this vehicle. Hopefully they won't be serious mistakes, but if they are, that is $15,000 down the drain and a nice rate hike in insurance.
Find a used F-150, Silverado, Tacoma, Ram 1500, and mod the shit out of it and do whatever you want in it. It's going to be cheaper to buy, mod, and fix than any diesel you get. There are a ton of good older full-sized trucks out there that can be either had for less than $20,000 and similar mileage, or less than 80,000 miles and a nicer interior package.

itsJacobIts a crew cab, of course its a 4x4, I will be plowing and using a trailer for it for atv's and snowmobiles, I do have a good job and I have been working and getting paid for a long time, I do drive very long distances up north in wisconsin and I plan on towing our atv's up there this summer, I am going to keep the truck for a long time. The truck is used gmc sierria 1500 2006, I has a lot of custom work in it so it saves me some money. But thank you very much for the advice
.MASSHOLE.See, if you had said you were hauling ATVs and snowmobiles, and plowing in the OP it would have made a LOT more sense on why you're looking for a diesel.
Then a diesel isn't a bad call at all.
Modding it wouldn't be the best bet, can't imagine it helps plowing but I have no idea if that is true.
That being said, I didn't think the 1500s came in diesel, only the 2500hds and up?
.Hugo.Ya modding the truck would be horrible for plowing and id guess that what he wants to do makes towing less practical as well. I think based on every post of his its clear the op knows absolutely nothing about trucks. Hes clearly like every other 16 year old and just wants a big mall crawler thats loud and can roll coal

kim_jong_illWhy the fuck would you buy a diesel if you aren't hauling? You realize regular maintenance is incredibly expensive right? Additionally, having a truck in the winter kinda sucks unless you have a sled deck or something heavy in the back for weight. I'd highly recommend a car or SUV and just toss a box on top but if you're set on a truck just don't buy a huge one. Get a tacoma or something smaller

itsJacobOh shit it's a 2500 I forgot if it was a 1500 or 2500, no of course an older GMC Sierra 1500 won't come in diesel

cydwhitWhen I owned a jacked up truck (6" suspension lift, 33" swampers) there were 0 ladies in my life. Now I own a Scion XA and there is an awesome mountain lady in my life.
Use that information as you wish.
Byron_tha_gr8BUY A RANGER AND FUCK WIT IT.
You can get a v-8 in there and learn a ton about trucks. If you put the money you would have put into a diesel into a ranger, you'll end up with a much sicker truck.
Why exactly do you need a duramax? Trust fund bursting at the seems so hard you can't cash out fast enough?
Chubz."ya i want a gigantic lifted truck that costs 100 dollars to fill up every 3 days because it has a bed where i can put my skis and my friends skis in it 4 months out of the year"
lol you're an idiot.
but yaaaa bro truck stuff yee yee
.frenchysome one is jealous, jesus christ chubz if he wants a lifted truck and can afford it then why not?
OP don't let a bunch of liberals try and convince you not to get a diesel, if you don't know how to fix it, here's a good idea, go to a shop to answer someones comment from above
