This is a giant rant post at peak resorts management so dont bother reading if you dont care. Here is a summary of what got me banned from Boston Mills Brandywine today. So winter storm stella came in. She dropped 6 inches of pow so we decided to build a pow jump off of this little natural hill between trails. The gm walks by and says we are perfectly fine. We were shocked because usually its illegal. I remember that I have a shovel in my car so I try to bring it on the lift. A manager took it really nicely and said i can pick it up at guest services later with no problem. Then around 2 hours later the GM sends his little servant that he hired this year up the hill to take my pass. I am pretty good friends with this guy, he is just new so he has a low rank. He thinks the whole thing is BS but has to follow orders. I go down to defend myself. He literally couldn't list a reason why shovels are banned when we are allowed to build a jump. Then he looks me in the eye for like 60 seconds and says "i am sick of you, get out of my resort!" I didnt get my pass or anything back so now im sitting at home contemplating how im gonna ski and if I should just quit since i cant ski the local hill. Ill still go on ski vacations of course but the nearest hill is 1 hour away and my dad doesnt want me getting a pass there. This gm got sent from new hampshire at wildcat mountain to Ohio probably because he is awful. He is super cheap and doesnt give the park crew any funding and makes as little snow as possible to stay open. I got a solid 39 days in this season and learned a ton of stuff but I don't even know if its worth continuing on. Thanks i just wanted to share this bull crap story
Everybody has been mad at him the last few years and he doesnt show his face in public except for today. He took down all of his gm notes on youtube from his first season because he was getting horassed too much. The whole situation is bullcrap. The old gm was amazing and would give funding to everybody and made a ton of snow.
Don't quit because you can ski your local hill. The nearest hill to me is 2.5 hours away, and I have skied 11 days this year, but It is still so much fun and I don't mind living far away. Your situation really sucks and it's unfair but 1 hour to the next closest hill is not far at all. Just deal with it and get a pass there if you can, it's not the end of the world.
You could try writing a really polite letter explaining what happened to the main branch that manages the resort, and see what happens. That really sucks, hope you can make something happen man
Honestly just get like a new coat and wear a face mask that covers your face and have your dad buy a pass for you then go under your dads name. The kids he kicked out earlier in the day came back like 2 hours later in different clothes and were fine

Also as an fyi you cant just bring a shovel up the lift at almost every mountain.
If you want to do it anyway buy a fold up avalanche shovel and keep it in a backpack.
If your ski area has rules against building jumps (which most do) find a spot thats out of the way where you wont get busted.
And for the most part, if your hill has jumps, whats the point of building in bounds jumps?

The jumps they had were like 2 feet. This one was like a 20-30 ft gap. I am just mad that i didnt even get a warning.

See if there's some type of bus service. Sometimes when I go to timberline or skibowl there is a bus about 30 minutes from my house that will take me to either resort for $2.

Well considering the vertical at both places is less than 300 ft and they have less than 100 acres there is 0 chance of a bus service. Not like im switching giant mountains or anything

You heard what all of the other people said. I literally did nothing but the gm is crazy. Even dirtybubble knows and he doesnt even ski at my place. The hill used to be amazing until this new guy showed up a few years ago. If you wanna judge me based on what i posted on an online forum asking for advice then you go knock yourself out...

Josh Boyd is the worst. My brother's board got stolen from a rack and he refused to let my brother and I look at the security tape to see who it was. It ended up being one of his own employees and somehow he blamed the whole incident on my brother. Boyd is the biggest prick and worst thing about BMBW

That is actually terrifying. I wonder what Tim Boyd (his father) did wrong. First josh's brother jesse gets charged with a bunch of felonies for trying to smuggle drugs inside terrain park features for big boulder, and now josh is literally going insane. I wonder what we did to deserve this...

Defiantly a good point but I was there for the whole thing. When they took the shovel he didn't question them or anything he was fine with it. When the GM got mad he didn't even say anything. He just stood there and got yelled at to leave the resort.

I have skied BMBW for a long time so I've been around for many different eras of management. Obviously peak resorts and the Boyds have issues (drug bust is classic) but it could be worse. Given the weather this year this is the first time in my life I can say they seem to be somewhat trying.
This is arguably one of the worst winters we've ever had and yet they have blown snow multiple times in March in order to stay open. For a while it was looking like they could've closed before March.
I can't speak much on the park at BW as I'm mainly at BM these days but I'm sure the park isn't near as good as it was under Jodi/Brandi. That being said I don't think you can say they don't fund the park...they just did a new build on buttermilk for the last week.
I have no idea who you are but recognize your username from regionals. I looked back through the BMBW thread in regionals and to be honest I'm not surprised you were treated this way.
From what I found here's the cliff notes:
Preseason(5 months ago):
1) You had a meeting with the marketing guy because you had been harassing BMBW so much over the past year.
2) You got a job at BMBW and at the time said:
"I had a nice talk with Josh. He seems like a nice guy so idk why everybody hates him. We started talking about peak resorts and stuff."
You then promptly quit your job before the season started and tried to avoid Josh.
3) You tried to make a BMBW jerry of the day instagram which I'm assuming was taken down since you used "BMBW_AV" in the username.
Early Season (3 months ago):
4) You constantly complained on all BMBW social media pages until you were banned from their social pages (see picture). At one point you even complained that a 30 sec instagram video they uploaded had no skiers.
5) You contacted Bishop to "have him take the BMBW thread down for legal reasons"
6) The thread didn't get taken down and you complained about your fear of getting banned from BMBW. You said on multiple occasions that you were going to ski Snow Trails next year.
End of season (now)
7) You try to bring a shovel up the lift with you and then you say you do nothing wrong and get thrown out?
When you manage to alienate management in the early season you're clearly doing something wrong. Quitting your job was a great way to start the year..wouldn't common sense tell you that you should keep a low profile after that?
I'm assuming you're relatively young, maybe high school? Eventually you'll realize that you mean absolutely nothing to the resort. You can moan and complain to your heart's content online about BMBW and peak resorts but it's really not going to have a huge impact. BMBW makes way more money off the ski school programs than they do you or I. You're not a special snowflake, you're just another customer like everyone else.
I don't know what to tell you about how to get your pass back but in the future you really need to chill out. I'm sure you're not a bad dude but it seems like you've been acting like an over-caffeinated kid and it caught up to you. Just chill out a bit, quit complaining so much, and ski more.

yea im not even gonna bother trying to get myself out of that roast. You got me very good. I am just gonna take the L on the situation and the next year and will wait till college to get back into skiing frequently. I tend to get caught up in the moment in lots of stuff and what does my dumb mind do, rant on the internet. Obviously the internet strikes back and here I am. I admire your dedication to find all of that evidence and gather it. I am just a highschooler who is an idiot. I don't even know what to say to this because you got me really good man. gg

My unsolicited advice to you is that if skiing is that big of a deal to you figure something out and get back at it next year... maybe just swear off social media and focus on having fun, not complaining about things that are outside your control. A season is a long time off if it isn't injury/health/financially driven.

Technically josh never said to not come back. I think it is implied, but if Tom doesn't give me the all clear by open house, i am gonna play basketball this winter since I miss it a lot after quittIng it for skiing. I don't think bmbw is worth $480 for a pass if I don't get open house pricing. I can get a RMSP in colorado and go on an extra vacation with that kind of money. Im still gonna ski mad river in college when i go to OSU,unless for some reason I don't go there.
