SCHOOL FOR SKIERS

Hey I thought some people may want to see this! If you're not sure what to do for school next year you should check out the Action Sports Park Development program at Algonquin college!

It's only a 1 year course but you get to learn how to create, design and build terrain parks! Not just snow, but you get to learn how to build BMX, skateboard and other kinds too! It'd be cool to see some Newschoolers applying!

I applied a bit late but the course is still open! And it'd be cool to see some girls apply too cuz I assume the majority, if not all will be guys. But it seems like a really cool thing to learn especially if you like to build!

Oh and the course is completely new! It's the first year they have it. Looks like the only one out there that I know of ^

Seems kind of neat, but you don't really have to go to school to get into any of that. For me it sounds like a waste of a year/ money and a bunch of free labour for any company looking to "train" students. Not sure if the program would last either, it sounds like the area already has nice skate parks, how many more could they possibly build?

But with that said, I hope you get what you want out of it

Oh ya totally get that! Still think you would professionally learn a lot of stuff and it'd be easier getting jobs in the industry after that. Like if you'd want to go bigger and design courses for x games or anything haha

im definitely interested but dont have the time to go back to college for another year for something like this. If they offered this somewhere in the US it would be sick

do you know who the teachers are? Do they bring local experts in and stuff?

Stoked to see this out there. You can for sure learn all of that stuff in the field but it takes a long time. Condensing the learning down and getting a fast course from experts would really help a lot of people accelerate their learning. Still would have to get field experience on top of that - but I bet if more people took basic training parks everywhere would get better.

There's a lot of times where at smaller places with new builders you make tones of mistakes which have been figured out by others a long time ago. Transferring that knowledge or ensuring there is someone experienced at each park built is extremely hard/rare.

The program coordinator and professor's name is Jeff Jackson. It said he's been working in the action sports field for about 25 years. Not sure if they bring in local experts and stuff but if you click on the "what it's like" tab on the website^ you can skip to 2:30 and it explains where you can ask them questions!

Yeah ik a guy who did this and he knows his stuff so. Hopefully it'll generate a better park crew for Camp Fortune...

haha yeah I skied there last year....camp fortune's park kinda sucks
