My friend's mom won't let him ski alone

It all started when my friend got a concussion from doing a cork. Ever since his concussion his mom won't let him ski alone. I think that your parents should always support on the activities you do. Comment on what you think.

How old is your friend?

parents get panicky with young kids, but always loosen up over time if you play your cards right.

Just because she doesn't want him to ski alone doesn't mean that she doesn't support his skiing, she is just afraid he is going to get hurt with no one there to help.

I mean he'll have to ski with someone else for a bit just to make sure he's alright. Skiing with a buddy is never a bad idea really so someone can scrape your body off the hill and take you to the hospital.

Then time will pass, shell chill and he'll be skiing alone.

I mean three years from now he could go to war too, so parents can't keep you safe forever.

I mean, they aren't wrong. I never send if I'm alone...just chill laps. I especially never ski hardcore trees. Smack one of those alone or tree well it and you're good as dead

Eh its probably not much of a bad thing. Skiing alone kind of sucks after a few laps anyway. At least she's not requiring adult supervision.

Really depends on what you're skiing. If it's a rope tow park lap after lap with people everywhere - whatever.

If you're at a big mountain and way out in the bowls skiing glades it's much safer to have a buddy.

Out in the BC alone and you're just asking to be dead.

Pretty much. When I'm back home I ski alone on the daily. But out here if I'm alone I'm not doing too much....maybe some park here and there...it's not fun sending without buddies for me anyways.

Yeah I don't think it's really a big deal. Especially when he already got hurt. I know when you're 15 you feel all old and mature and think you're the shit. I did too, but you guys are babies lol. I'm a senior in college now, and its funny to see freshman and remember how old I felt at that age, but now they seem like little kids. On the flip side of that, I remember when I was a freshman, seniors seemed super old, so fuckkkkk hahaha. Also, I'm positive someone a few years older than me is gonna tell me that I'm a baby, and I'm so young and immature lol. Sorry for the rambling, I'm supposed to be writing a paper and I took adderal, but instead I'm just posting all over NS.

It is at the park and his mom has to watch him ski and she will stay there all day. And even if I am there she is still there all day long.

im the dude who got hurt im richs friend, yeah my mom is pretty overprotective, she almost grounded me from a vid of me showing her a cork 5 blunt. Hopefully she loosens up next season, if i can explain to her ill take it super easy

Thats kinda bizarre, its like having your mom sit on top of the ramps at the skatepark I imagine. Has she bought him good gear like a nice helmet or even a back protector? Shes not being unsupportive lol, shes being very safe but I mean as long as theres people around the hill I think hes fine. Ski patrol are also there for a reason, just ski with him more often so he doesnt feel like hes 6 years old again.

My mom stopped letting me do inverts after I got two concussions and broke my femur. I'l toss one if its super soft and the jump is perfect tho. Sometimes feel guilty

Some parents though well meaning are fucking are way too fucking overprotective.

At a certain point kids have to stand up to that shit. Not being a little shit and being a douche, but you cant just do whatever your parents want.

Kids thats parents say they cant flip. Even heard of people going farther than that on tricks and jump size.

At 15 youre not a baby. Gotta start making some decisions. Concussions should be taken seriously but this is fucking dumb.

Also are his friends all doctors and emt's? Parks are full of people. Most times you wont be there long before somebody shows up. Then ski patrol will be the ones dealing with injuries. What the fuck is a friend being with him going to do? Other than make him try stupid shit.

If shes going to be like that just dont show her. Show your friends and just dont mention it to your mom. Shes likely not going to change on this. Also just do your thing.

Knew a guy who was dropping some cliffs on a huge powder day by himself, rolled on a landing, got stuck and suffocated. Really unlucky, and it's not like he was just lapping the park, but good practice to have ski buddies if you're doing any aggressive skiing.

Everyone is interpreting this as his friend isn't allowed to ski by himself, I think what OP meant is that he can't ski without supervision?? Maybe I am wrong here but why would his friend care if he can't go skiing if he's not even going to be there.

I remember my parents had some similar fears when I was young like that. They were chill about skiing because it was something they understood but got super pissed when when we would go into town and "vandalize" private property by skating.

The moral of the story is if your parents are nuts get better at lying and not getting caught it's a very important skill. No but seriously if there is one friend you have that parents trust and don't think is a complete dipshit try to use their influence to work them over.
