I don't have chronics, but my friend has the 2016, and 2014 pairs. He loves them, and claims they hold up pretty well. I do know that one of the edges on the older pair popped out, but he loves the new ones.

I have the 2015 traveling circus ski and they are just as fucked as yours. I've skied them for 27 days and the topsheet near the edges are torn off and the wood is now exposed. yesterday I went for a good ole nollie and i heard a snap, looked down and straight across the ski its snapped.

They're not the most durable skis. Topsheet loves to chip and sidewalk popped out. Fixed that, but I just lost a 4 inch piece of edge being my heel. Is where it went so I can't glue it in, just epoxied the section hopefully I can ski them for one more weekend

Even though Line durability is pretty shit, edges cracking and falling out after 15 days is most likely the riders responsibility. Almost every company nowadays uses 2.5mm x 2.5mm edges (the fattest edges in the industry), so by no means does it so happen fall on Line Skis durability. The only company I know that adds some heat treatment is Armada that is supposed to help the life of the ski. It doesn't sound like you hit anything besides rails, and the sidewall you didnt mention at all.

Did you detune?
Did you swap skis around?
Did you epoxy and clamp?

Probably not.

I ruined last years Chronic in about three weeks. This season, my new pair have about 60 days on them and i only have three edge cracks between both skis. It seems to be very hit or miss with their skis

Tops flake like croissants but bottoms seem to hold. My 16 blends seem to flake easier then my 14 chronics did but it might be me with wider skis.

Is it 2.5mm x 2.2? A good portion do, some companies vary it by ski, uses smaller edges for fatter pow sticks and such, but a lot of park skis do now. I know his Lines did.

I still ski a pair of Line chronics from 2012 and have absolutely sent those through the ringer and they might have one edge crack after 100+ days of riding them. Mind you, those weren't all park days but still, mine have held up very well.

Its because it heats up as you grind the rail, and then cools down again when it touches snow, causing them to expand and retract causing them to eventually split. I think this is correct someone add to this

Not gonna pretend that I know for sure, but I can't imagine that you're on the rail long enough to heat it up enough that the snow then causes such an immediate, and extreme temperature change that it splits. Maybe if you were hitting a super long rail. Maybe I'm also just an idiot.

I also probably know more (or at least as much) about skiing than snowboarding. Stupidly switched when I was younger. All my friends ski. I want to get back into it, but don't want to deal with learning how to ski again. Not that good at snowboarding by any means, but can hit most rails, and spin 3's both ways with grabs off small to medium jumps, and decent at jibs. It would suck to have to go back to learning how to hit boxes and shit.

Sorry got way off topic. Anyways as for the topic of this thread, If I'm wrong, I apologize, just threw in my 2 cents. If that truly is enough to cause rapid enough temperature changes to break edges, I'm surprised.

Sorry to hear that! it for sure will happen to every ski manufactured with metal edges that is slid on rails, the constant battle between smashing on big metal rails and the effect on the much smaller ski edges, they will never win but hopefully, the cracks aren't' affecting the skiabilty of the Chronics. Detune a bit and use a file and they should hold up. They use a thicker base & edge material so the durabilty we're confident with (LJ went thru about 2.5 pars of skis here: If you feel it's a warranty issue for sure bring into the shop you got them from to take a look. -jm

For the record LJ went thru about 3 pairs throughout his X Games Real Ski 3 months of destroying.

How much do you hit rails. Also sometimes its luck. But I've heard ON3Ps are pretty sick. Usually there isn't a company that has edges that won't split as fast (dependent on edge thickness) but if two different pairs of skis (say his Chronics and your Ohneps) both have 2.5mm edge thickness, its gonna be based on some luck, detuning, and amount you hit rails. There are only like 2 edge manufacturing companies in the world, not like Line or ON3P makes there edges better than each other. So OPs problem is mostly likely because he didnt do maintenance, and maybe some bad luck.

Hitting steel on steel creates what's called work hardened steel.
As most ski edges are close to the same (Some are harder than others) but I bet Line and ON3P probably use the same stuff.
If you slam, you harden more. The harder the edge gets, the more prone to cracking it gets.
If you want to ride rails you need not to DE-TUNE your skis, but rather TUNE them properly for rail and box riding.
The manufactures can't do all this for you!
You need to take matters into your own hands!
REMEMBER that any MACHINE tuning makes an edges harder!

ON3p is a good ski, but you are kinda' full of it here. Any brand can have issues from run to run. Sometimes a layout is bad etc. This sort of thing happens to the best of them. That's why they warranty their stuff. If it's not caused by major abuse most will cover it.
Ever see numbers on skis? When the makers see skis coming back they track those numbers. They see that on a particular time something went wrong. Then they take care of it. In another case you did the damage yourself.
No skis from any maker can withstand the punishment you provide.
Learn to be smooth and your skis will last a bit longer. Learn to tune them for park and they will last longer still and ski way better too.
