s.j.mitchellWas skiing down the park one day and a park crew member had just raked and painted the lip. It was a pretty slushy day. I hit it and then right behind me a Jerry come through and mashes the lip to the ground. Park crew guy and I had a good laugh about that
DieselChevysAt my home resort alpine valley, the amount of jerrys and rental kids is unbelievable, it pisses me off, they need to monitor the parks to keep the gapers out like at a park in Norway where they have a jerry net which is a rail in the middle which you have to hit or you gap the fence
colbyapplegateEveryone was a jerry at one point they just need to be taught. Jerries in the park is good for the sport as annoying as it is you just gotta teach them
WorkingFTWeekendOP what makes you any more entitled to the park than anyone else, jerrys included?
theabortionatorIf the park is built to be ridden a cetain way you're more entitled than the family sidejumping rolling features, and snaking people.
That's just the way. There are free public skateparks everywhere. If I decide to lay out a blanket and have a legitimate picnic in the center of the bowl is that alright? I mean the parks a public park and my taxes helped pay for it. Why can't I have my picnic?
Being good doesn't really entitle you to the park, especially at the expense of other users. That said if you're using the parks you need to follow the rules.
Also a lot of bad injuries and lawsuits start from somebody using the park improperly.
Everything from people sidejumping at getting hurt, airing off the knuckle and getting hurt, deviding that 50 footer in the large park is a better first jump to try than the 20+ smaller ones in the other parks.
Park staff puts a lot of effort into planning and building out parks in a way to progress people. The goal being for people to never have to go from a few 15' jump to a 40' or dance floor box to a 25' waist high down rail.
Accidents can happen anyway in the park or mtn, but it def drops the risk down.
WorkingFTWeekendyou're using an insane analogy to prop up your argument. Enough with the skate park comparisons, simply for the fact that riding in a snow park is much more directional in terms of gravity/pull.
Everyone pays, and therefore has equal opportunities to ride in the mountain. Your tax dollars do not factor into your average resort park.
It seems that you either need patience or would have to build your own personal park to be content.
Someone already mentioned this before, but you're better off educating others if you're really passionate about riding in the park, park etiquette etc.
Also if I'm not mistaken I don't think there would be much grounds to sue in all of the scenarios mentioned in this thread due to skier's actions/neglect and liability waivers.
I think this post stems from the "heady" mentality a lot of park skiers uphold - that might be the issue worth addressing.

theabortionatorOkay. If i decide to camp on landing of a jump. Why is that not okay. I paid full price to ski with my family. They're going to slide down the jump as much as they want.
Idk what you're saying there. Im quite happy with parks that have people riding although i do love some quite midweek morning laps.
Back off warchild. Where did I say im not down with educating users? Im mot sitting at the top of the xl park shoving jerries into the woods screaming "get the out kooks" or locals only.
All those cases are actual lawsuits, some happened many times. Even outside of suits they're reasons why mtms have had to nerf their features.
My posts aren't from the heady mentality. Theres a mix. The old agressive local surf artitude is way to much. The fuck it, let them do whatever they want is too far on the other end.
Smokey this is not nam this is terrain parks. There are rules.
Parks that have to mark every rail, parks that got rid of jumps entirely, etc are because of people getting very hurt and huge lawsuits.
But yeah Im just old and "too heady" and mad that kids are having fun in the parks.
jmckay7I'd rather see a jerry that LOOKS like one and openly accepts being a jerry, than some kid who has all the gear (dressed in xxl clothing, expensive park skis etc...) but no idea, you gotta start from the bottom.
