if you go softer fiberglass and softer carbon, how much a difference does it actually make?
Looking at getting a pair of kartel 108s to replace my 106's that i sold and I LOVED how they skied after 3 seasons of riding. They charged through anything i took them through and i was able to butter them how i wanted. But I want something just as playful out of the box. My biggest concern is with taking that stiffness out of the ski, am I going to lose a lot of that power and stability going through chop and chunder? It'll be a do it all ski, deep days in utah when im out there, whatever "pow" days we get at home as well as trips up to NH and VT, fat park ski, and something i can haul ass on groomers with. But im just loooking for that same playfulness I had with my broken in kartels.

I contacted them a few days ago asking the same thing. Here's the response I got (keep in mind that this is for the 176 Kartel 98):
"The stock layup for a 176 Kartel 98 is 22oz fiberglass with 2in carbon. Frankly, we do not recommend softening both the fiberglass and carbon to 19oz/1in because it becomes so soft that performance and durability become compromised. That leaves you with two options: 19oz + 2in, or 22oz +1in. Though they will be nearly identical in their flex, they will have different characteristics. 19oz + 2in is lighter, has more pop, and is more playful. 22oz + 1in is heavier, has less pop, and will be more damp/stable. Our recommendation for this particular ski is to go with 19oz fiberglass and 2in carbon. Hope that helps, thanks for your interest and support!"
They're brand new. No summer skiing here on the east coast so I have no days on them. But I keep them in my room and hand flex them just about every day.
voy10I copped a pair of 2017 Magnuses in June. Do they soften up over time? There pretty hard to flex good by hand.
Rocker makes them easy to move around and push into butters. Flex supports you while you are there. We find most skis have a 6-8 day break in period where their flex settles slightly. Hope that helps.
Just got my Magnuses in the mail and didn't realize that they come detuned underfoot which actually works out awesome because I trust your guys' (and your machines) ability to evenly detune over me taking a file and hacking away. Skis look great, maybe even too good. I think my brother is convinced he wants a pair now, and its against the cool rules that he and i both have the same graphic, right? ;)
I mean.... if someone at the factory wants to hook it up with some 186 k108s with a stiffer tail and nose (tail/waist/nose of or around 8/9/7 rather than the claimed 6/9/6) with the second year top sheet and possibly green sidewalls, that would be very chyl.
So many people are getting Vishnus this year, but I still believe that On3p is the better brand. I love stuff that's made in America, and On3p is prob the more durable ski still.

What are the odds of getting the eagle or dragon from the kartels on a veneer top sheet? These are unreal
For total transparency - these really detailed wood veneers that are out are basically internally only (for now at least). The Wren you see above was for Rowen - one of the founding members of ON3P - and there is a Kartel one out that our Marketing Manager has (he is also a long time friend of our Production Manager who hand cuts these).
These really detailed wood veneers take a substantial amount of time, hence why they are not offered publically. Trevor literally cuts there out by hand with a razor blade and then reassembles them, so the process is slow going.
We are discussing on some graphic variations for the wood veneers that would be a bit more practical for production, but no timeline for their release and right now we are keeping them classic and simple - with the wood veneer itself the primary focus.

Are flex numbers an industry standard or do they vary between companies? I've been riding armada bdogs for years but I want something that is a bit stronger under my feet now, they're absolute noodles and always have been. I am stuck between the magnus and kartel 98, I think the kartel might be too big of a jump in the opposite direction (stiff) for me.

yeah flex ratings vary a lot, theyre notoriously inconsistent between companies. hell, im not even convinced that within a company's line theyre always very reliable

Crispy.To someone from ON3P, do you guys recommend further detuning of the Magnus' edges prior to rail skiing or should the factory detune be sufficient?
I always add an extra detune to my park skis before hitting rails. I found that it really extends the life of the edges in the long run.

Even if the edges are already detuned from the factory? If you feel the edge underfoot on the magnus (not sure if you have or not), they're pretty dull. You think I should detune más?
