Can anyone tell me which is easier, as well as some key differences and what to try first. Any other comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Go for hand drag cork 3 first. They're a lot easier to commit to, at least for me, since your shoulder is already dropped when you hand dragging.

im no expert but if you look at my thread post about cork 3s im sorta doing a hand drag 3. Hand drags are definitely easier and will help set you cork/off axis and i would say just keep doing hand drags and slowly cork it out and eventually ease into not doing a hand drag and just straight cork 3
