Salomon Guardian 16 AT Bindings 2014

I've seen the two types of bindings you can buy, frame and tech bindings. Tech really isn't appealing at this point as I'd have to get a whole new pair of boots for them, as I've been seeing you can do frame bindings with regular alpine boots, which would be great. Has anybody skied on the Guardians? What are your thoughts on them?

Yeah that was what I was thinking. Sounds like I'll buy those and then try to get like some Rossi S7's or other skis so I can start out getting into AT/backcountry.

I've had a pair on my Jeffrey 122s for three seasons now, no issues with them at all. They ski well, though i can detect an EXTREMELY tiny amount of play in the binding, presumably at the binding/frame interface, but only if I'm swinging my legs on a chairlift. It's not noticeable skiing at all. The toe is solid, and I don't think I've ever had a scenario that I released when I shouldn't have, nor have I stayed in when I shouldn't have. The only other tiny gripe I have is that if you have a ~315mm boot sole and think you'll get proficient enough to put skins on without stepping out of your bindings, you may want to go for the size large. I have a 27.5 boot (316mm boot sole, and I'm at the very large end of the spectrum for the small binding, and because of this, it's tough to get leverage over the tour mechanism with my poles due to the heelpiece sitting so close to the lever. Super minor inconvenience, especially since I still suck at putting on skins, but it might be of concern to some people.

so ive got the guardians and my only complaint is the 2 riser angles....anybody ever jerry rigged a 3rd middle riser in there? I want to try to

My advice is simple: when it comes to touring gear, it is worth remembering the old adage that every extra kilogram on your feet ruins your enjoyment on the ascent.

Keep us posted if that works. The Marker bindings have better riser setups, but I like the Guardians better overall. I end up using those skis the most and just dealing with the weight, but another setting would be nice.

same with me. I took the heel piece from my MFD plates and cannabalized them, kinda works. You toss the riser under the guardian heel, but it has some play in it and it kinda sucks having to reach and grab it or put it under every time you wanna change angles.
