I just got my hands on a copy of adobe illustrator cs and i was wondering if someone could give me some tutorials (mine aren't working for some reason) and some tips and tricks on things to do in this program.

the biggest thing is learn how to use the pen tool. messege me, i can help you out a ton with specific questions, i know that program pretty well.

^good call..def. the pen tool. i don't have much experience with illustrator, but with photoshop it's probably the most valuable tool.

in illustrator it is the single most important tool you can use. if you can be awesome with the pen tool you'll have sick illistrator skills, like this. this was all done using the pen tool to make the shapes and just simple meshes, gradients and blends for the fills.

hmm ok, i will try to develop my skills with the pen tool, thanks for the advice. The program seems good, though im not sure which i like better, illustrator or photoshop they both are sweet though.

the single best tip i ever got for the pen tool just in case you're having trouble is this. click and then drag to where you want your next point to be this'll give you a feeling for it. and for the record photoshop is better, its more versatile but illustrator is good for making things from scratch.

i kinda like photoshop over illustrator also.

ok photoshop and illustrator should not be used and looked at alike. never do vectors in photoshop, and why woudl you ever alter photographs in illustrator?

no one, but why would you ever compare the two? and ive seen vector wannabees done in photoshop, theyre not vectors though and theyre done because you can use the eye dropper to get the exact color which is cheating.

and how do you do the background like that and the meshing and blending and shit? i would find out on my own but for some reason all of my help files the html things are all corrupted and it sucks...

a vector image is one that can be infinitely resized without losing any quality. the picture isnt comprised of pixels(which is a raster image like in photoshop), but rather shapes and values.

and i dont remember exactly how i made that background but it was somewhat along the lines of making the entire thing a greenish color, then adding the pixelate effect(effect>noise>pixelate), then blurring the whole thing a lot. yeah something like that.

also make sure you have the program in RBG mode or else you wont be able to use the effects which is a big help for certain things.
