Why do floating rails have square holes

I can't find any examples, but one is a blue rail in the YouTube video of the Armada b and e 2017 product line on YouTube. It has those square holes. Rails just like that at my resort have that too. Anyone know why? I've noticed that many other rails like that have those square holes.

For the snowcat's forks on on the blade to go thru them and pick the rail up / transport it. If you notice they're always a particular distance apart

The technical name for this is "Fork Ports".

Without them, picking up rails is a mess of strapping them on to the blade and risking damage. Most old cats can easily pick up a set of attachable forks on the blade, and some of the really cool park cats actually have fold-out forks built into the blade.

Its a total game changer when you start putting the fork ports on your rail.

Theres a snowboarding edit somewhere from the RK1 crew where one of them catches this hole and takes a chunk of flesh off. Gnarly as hell
