DRIVING IN TAHOE - PLEASE HELP

My sister and I will go coming from San Francisco to heavenly or squaw either Sunday march 5th or Monday the 6th and she's concerned about the driving. We would Be driving a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse.. any advice?? Where are the bad passes and how bad are they? Are there resorts that are easier to get to than others? Otherwise we will take a shuttle bus, but if we drive we could ski more and have more freedom.. any recommendations on shuttles or the situation as a whole?

Also, is there a place we could possibly stay for a night or two? I'm sure we could reimburse you with something of value

Just headed to Reno airport at this moment. Reno to Tahoe is super easy, shuttle gets you there in an hour. Make your sister fly to Reno.

Crazy storms while I was there. Tons of road closures. So youre rolling the dice for weather and roads.

You guys are fucking idiots. Every single Asian treks out in their FWD minivan with chains. Chain up and you won't have an issue. People make the weekend trip to Northstar all the time from SF and even further. If you come in during a storm just push on over the passes and hope an avalanche doesn't sweep you off a pass...Then you're just fucked

Looks like good weather for next weekend, but that may change.

Parts of the 50 are collapsed, so give South Lake Tahoe a miss, plus that highway sucks to drive anyway.

With good weather you'll have no problem making it up the Interstate 80 to the resorts around North Lake, the easiest decent resort to get to from SF is Sugarbowl, you'll avoid having to drive over Donner Pass (but it's really no big deal to drive over).

If you're skiing Sunday, make sure to leave very early or you'll be sitting in traffic longer than you spend skiing.

bring chains and you'll be fine on I80 if you don't drive like a tard. avoid busy traffic times at all costs tho

I know how to drive in any amount of snow on flat roads, but not up and down mountains haha

And this is why the funding traffic is bad and the roads are borderline undrivable. Don't do this.


Also open it completely depends on the weather....we could get another 8ft of snow with more 200mph winds or it could be sunny and 60 degrees.

Just know if you are going to squaw you better be there early. Lots fI'll up by 10am. I leave Reno at 715 normally and a lot of times I won't get there till 9 or later. Funding wack

It turns out that my sister found a deal for $130 for a lift ticket at Squaw for Sunday and the shuttle included, so we're doing that I guess!

Bring chains. Just take it slow and mellow. Traffic will be terrible around squalpine. Like an hour to go 10 miles.

It's not bad driving, but all the idiot drivers who drive in snow twice per year spin out and talk about it being a snopocalypse.

Don't do anything while driving that endangers other people. That includes ignoring chain controls in Nevada that someone else above suggested.
