Honestly why tf do you guys go to college in colorado?
tbh you guys are blowing it if you actually want to ski good terrain without driving hella long. denver to skiing hour 30+
boulder to summit, hour 30+
whats the deal you dingers?
sometimes a long trafficky drive like that is worth it when you live somewhere nice. Can't really speak for Denver but Boulder is an amazing town where its biggest problem is its so dope that too many people want to move in and rent is $$$
but probably because colorado is just a cool state in general, and also happens to have great skiing well worth a decent drive. also could be legal weed but idk if its that appealing to skiers.....
Kids wanna party when they go to college, even moreso than ski, regardless of what they tell you. CU is know for partying, its in CO so its closer to skiing than anywhere on the east coast so they go for it. U of Utah is much better for actual skiing but people get scared off because they think they wont party enough, im okay with that, let 'em go to CO haha.

How is the party scene at the U, I'm going there this fall and IDK what to expect, not that it matters?
Because they didn't do their research. Could be living in Teton village and making a profit like Sconnie, or you could be stuck in traffic in summit on your way to a not-so-steep mountain.
because skiing doesnt have to be everything. When i was a freshman i sure as hell thought it was and wondered why i went to school so far from the mountians. Now i ive realized its REALLY nice to actually have a mix between school, skiing, and partying etc... I still get to ski keystone breack and copper 3-4 times a week. I aint complaining

Curious as to what colleges are near Teton Village? There was a good school with high level academics and a good party scene 10 minutes from Teton Village I would think it would be popular. Skiing Jackson several days a week while in college would be sick.

No school, just skiing and work. I can't afford that shit and I'm not falling for the student loan scam like the rest of the sheep millennials. Maybe I will try school in 4 years when I actually have money.

If you are a good student and you ever want to actually make some real money you should go to school. If you are a bad student and can't get into somewhere decent it might not be worth it.

Judging from your grammar, it probably wouldn't be worth your while
Be thankful, I live in Scotland and its 3+ hours from most places to our mountains and you can't get there 90% of the time when it does snow as all the roads are shut due to the snow...

I have a 3.7 highschool GPA and got accepted to five different schools, still don't want to go. Because it's bullshit.

If you don't want to go that's your choice, I just hope you realize that it will limit your earning potential in life. Life is not about only money, if someone wants to live in the mountains and ski that is fine, but the vast majority of well paying jobs that also have good stability require a degree. This becomes more and more established the further away you get from school, you don't find many people without degrees who make multiples of 6 figures, although there are some.
My degree is essential for what I do. I did my time as a ski bum then put my degree to work. I absolutely could not do what I do without a degree, they wouldn't even give me an interview.
I hear you about graduating with lots of debt. But unless you become a contractor, and you need to be a good one, you won't make nearly as much money without a degree. Study after study confirms this. This is true if you go to a good school, not as true for low level schools, of which there are now many. Having a college degree has been devalued, having a good one has not.
What kind of SAT's did you get? How many AP courses were you taking? There is lots of financial aid out there for people who are good enough students. How good are the schools you got into? Just saying you got into 5 schools tells me nothing about those schools. If you got into Harvard, Pomona, Stanford, Caltech and MIT that would be pretty amazing. Those are certainly schools where it is worth going.
Do what you want, just realize that as time goes by the difference between what a college grad makes and what a non-college grad makes become more and more pronounced. You might not want to go the corporate route, but it is a good idea not to shut that door at this age.
If you have great skills coding you might be able to do well without a degree, otherwise for most it is manual labor, which is very hard on the body.
For people at high level schools college is usually worth it. It is definitely not bullshit. I make quite a bit more than 6 figures and my work week is only about 40-50 hours, usually around 40. I also have terrific job stability. It is very tough to get what I have without a degree.
If you are smart enough to get into Stanford and you don't go that is a huge waste. If you get a degree in engineering or finance or something like that it will pay for itself.
Also, you said you were in Teton Village? How are you going to save money living there? That is a tough place to get by, and an even tougher place to save money given the salaries most people there make.

Study computer science, computer programing, something do with computers, you will make a shit ton of money, have a koosh ass job and plenty of freedom.
I can't speak to the college aspect of this thread, but I live in Georgetown, CO. I'm ten minutes door to door to Loveland ski area, where I work full time. Loveland doesn't have any 3000 vertical feet lines, but there's some steep skiing, stuff to jump off of, access to do some very fun backcountry skiing with a lot of touring options away from the droves of idiots on loveland pass, and other than holidays and especially busy weekends, it's a really amazing place to call a home mountain.
Park isn't at all the priority there (though the park crew does a great job despite limitations set), so wouldn't be a fit for everyone on NS, but it's family owned and has an amazing community of devoted local rippers. People raise families at a place like Loveland. There's no amenities to speak of, it's just a skiers skier mountain with no fanfare.
Colorado isn't all just Denver and vail resorts.
It gets a bum rap, and there's definitely some valid reasons, the traffic and commute being a key one, but so many people on this site dismiss Colorado as this joke of a place, and it's actually an amazing place to be in my eyes. Sure it's not for everyone, and there are some truly singular ski towns elsewhere that anyone would be lucky to call home, but Colorado is also home to some really great ski areas just slightly off the typical vail resorts loop. And even the vail resorts areas aren't these terrible evil places people make them out to be.

That's an ignorant statement in its self. Don't get me wrong, I did the whole school thing. Got the paper for the home office. Made Mom and Dad proud and don't use it at all. I still have a great job that I love just in an entirely different field. I also have friends that are all smart great guys that didn't do the college thing. They all are doing great. Right out of HS went into an apprenticeship and were pulling 60k right out of school. Now with some year under their belt they own their own companies, homes, trucks, boats and oh ya...... they ski way more than any desk jockey.
You need to check you entitled attitude and realize that college is not for everyone and it definitely does not make you and less smart or intelligent for choosing a path that makes you happy.

Some people can pull that off, but being an entrepreneur and taking major financial risks isn't for everyone (especially when you don't have easy access to capital). Do you really think you gained nothing from your college experience? Even if you work in a completely unrelated field, I would hope that you gained some useful knowledge and discipline that impact your career. I wouldn't discourage everyone from going to college.
Here in Grand Rapids mi I am 15-30min from three hills but I still drive 2-3 hours north. Last week I was in silverthorne and 70 was shut down on dry sunny day for couple hours. Gave me time to finish my Cheba blunt.
I grew up in Michigan (SE Michigan, where it is flat as shit) and had very little skiing around me. When I moved to Denver to go to DU, it was a dream. I had a handful of world class resorts within 2 hours?! That was literally heaven, and I did the I70 drive 2-3 days per week with no complaints.
Fast forward 5 years, I live in Park City at the base of the Canyons and can walk to the lifts. I was back in Denver this weekend to see some friends and I thought to myself "how did I handle this?!"

I would never discourage anyone. But to say someone was less "smart" because of choosing not to attend is not right. Sure it has been proven that you can make more money with a college education, yet there are thousands of people that end their college lives with crippling debt. I just feel that there is no reason to shame or look down on someone that chose to enter the work force rather than attend college. The trades are a lost art and we will always need electricians, mechanics and chefs. Non are bad fields and all require intelligence and hard work with no stifling college loan dept.
Actually, you can make equal or more money without college. It depends on how motivated you are. College is mostly a waste and an indroctnation center now, save for a few careers. Google no longer cares if you went to college they what to know how you think and what you can do.

How so? I'm old and have had several careers. I have rich friends and poor friends I have experienced a lot. Care to explain or would you rather leave your response as a baseless twitter-Esk comment?

Eh don't try to act so edgy
your comment saying college has no purpose besides a couple of careers is just completely wrong

This. SLC is great, but there's more to life than skiing, and imo CU Boulder, DU, CC, and Mines are very strong academically, much better than MSU or Utah.

Everything is relative.
Totally agree on the relativity
Growing up in Milwaukee, WI I was 45 minutes from the closest hill, 2 hours from any decent ones.
Came to CO to attend CSU 3 years ago and that first year of getting ~25 days at Colorado resorts was amazing. After 2 seasons the drive was definitely getting old, but I was still having a blast. Now I've transitioned more to the backcountry closer to Fort Collins, and am loving that too. It's all just skiing, as long as I'm getting out I'm happy.
It honestly sucks in colorado. I have gone from skiing 60ish days in a 4 month season in the midwest to about 20 days in a 7-8 month long season. The drive is terrible and I would rather ride a midwest rope tow park than A51. Utah seems sick though

What the fuck is wrong with you; I live in the Midwest and I've gone to Colorado a few times and the parks are 100s of times better than anything around where I live.
