Im from NH and the park crew up here is cool but they lack creativity its like normal flat bars and dance floors and a 30 40 and 60 ft jump line. Is your park crew super sick and creative? and where are you located?
Some people don't give a fuck or don't understand. While that's gotten better, it's still a big issue. Even with limited resources most places COULD have a pretty good park.
On the other side, sometimes people have unrealistic expectations. Not every hill has the resources of other mountains you see or ride. The amount of snow they're able to blow into the park, if they have a dedicated park fleet or one sketchy cat with a fucked up blade that also grooms other trails. Budget etc.
Also. I've heard a lot of ideas from people over the years. Some people have some really great ideas. A lot of people, though well meaning, have some pretty horrible ideas.
Sometimes, even if people got the perfect park they wanted, it wouldn't necessarily be good. And by perfect I mean exactly what they wanted put in. So keep that in mind.
Parks are getting a lot better across the board though. 10+ years ago, some of these mountains didn't even have parks. So it's pretty cool that they're making an effort.
If you're riding a small hill that doesn't quite get it. Offer some advice IN A NICE WAY. Being a dick will not help you. Knowing what you want is very helpful. Let's say you want a better jump. Find pictures of good jumps at better mountains that show the shape of the take off, landing etc. Some of these guys are really great operators, but honestly know nothing about the park.
Of course some people are super crusty and will never change, but there are some good people out there who honestly just have no idea. To some people it's "Well we already have a park". They don't understand what makes one park better than another, and how to go about building.
I feel you though. The mountain I grew up riding didn't have a park. I've ridden a lot of shitty parks. It sucks when you can't ride nice features.
Best bet is to talk to the people as I mentioned. See if there's a chance to get on the park crew.
If that doesn't pan out, hitch some rides to other mtns with friends, or buy a pass/get a job somewhere else when you get your license. When you're 18, move to somewhere with your dream park.
Hope things get better in your parks though. IT's a fucking battle sometimes.

I get what youre saying but at least at crotched, shitting on the crew has been the only way to communicate with them. My whole ski group is pretty tight with them, some having been on the volunteer crew in years prior. But they dont even bother asking what we want to see, they just take 3 or 4 good rails and then a bunch of boxes and try to set them up in either a simple way or just in the dumbest ways possible. Even after that 2 feet of snow we got the only rebuild they did consisted of all the same features just rearranged like they always do. They only put effort into building the "block party" setup for midnight madness events which so far have been a platform with a few rails that drop 2-4 feet to dead flat, theyre rebuilding today for tonights last event so hopefully itll be better than before but like every other park build its just gonna be the same features setup differently, wish I could make it tonight to see it and maybe win $50-100 bucks but i have work and its gonna be like 7 degrees and windy anyway.
Their main issue is jumps, the "mini park" jumps are currently 30-40 feet from eachother and the landings literally just go into the natural shape of the trail and instead of using the snow they made for landings on the jumps, they have a fucking 60 foot long, 8-ish foot tall spine going along the 2 jump line. Then the "big park" jump is probably a 20 foot gap to a landing that has 2 feet of sweet spot and sits at about a 25-30 degree angle so landing switch just kills you. The guy who builds them for the past 2-3 years honestly doesnt know what hes doing, we had a carinthia guy build ours a few years ago and they turned out real nice. But since then the guy now just pushes usually big piles of snow getting my hopes up only to either make the landing way to steep or to flat, last year the jump wasnt that bad itself but you had to land literally 2 feet past the brutal knuckle or else youd overshoot to flat. I just ski mount snow whenever im free and weathers good, otherwise i go there for 2 hours or even less, because you can actually get tons of laps in if the high speed quad they bought used decides it wants to work.

I hear ya. Was just going for on general. Every park is different. Budget, features, crew size, mgmt, etc. But sometimes people are less than constructive.
As far as crotched bummer to hear though. Do they still have that 40' wooden battleship in the trees?

Yeah I also assume the park crew does other shit with their lives considering how rare it is i see them when im there and how little money they probably make. Plus the only one who really tries and cares is like a part time pro skater/part time student in college.
When we had all the snow in the woods I did see a battleship but it looked pretty hard for skiers unless you had speed to 50/50 up to the first up to the flat, and was probably only 15-20 feet, there are some others in the trees low skiers right off the slow ass double though, I think i recall a pole jam on a little berm on the side of one of the glades. Hopefully I can find some more if weather allows it, theres a fun ass pump track though skiers right of the mountain. Havent skied in 9 days so hopefully I can go tomorrow and hit the new setup.
my park crew been getting so much shit lately they turned comments off on their instagram. They don't have a care. There only care is the park where the contest is all day and that's about it. I've seen them twice this year doing any maitenence during the day that's it

The park i ran last year went crazy this year and started deleting anyones comments they dont like. Even contructive stuff. Theyre lolz.
Shits wack though. It sucks sometimes because even if everything is perfect somebody will always hate. But the places that build garbage and then delete negative feedback? Lol fuck that
Lack of maintenance pisses me off though. Everyone want to work park but nobody wants to work. I feel for ya man.

I saw that post the other day where they're advertising jump lengths to the knuckle and the "sweet spot". Who's deciding where the sweet spot is and why are you telling people that one place to land is better than another place?

dumb dumbs.
dude its nuts.
I was definitely a tad butt hurt about ditching vail to waste a season there but really wanted to see that place do well. It was a claim fest about everything though. Ive literally never seen a park claim so hard about how good theyre doing etc. Even parks that are actually good.
At a certain point it detracts from the achievments imo.
But they built an alleged 67 footer and started claiming "67 FOOTER BIGGEST IN THE EAST" on everything as if bigger was better.
Now that wasn't enough so theyre advertising a fucking 92 footer.
Granted they only have a 3 jump line. So for the whole season the bottom jump was something almost nobody riding there could hit. This is a mountain with a lot of up and coming kids. But they chose a claim jump instead of something to progress those kids
Now its a fucking 92 footer? So you cant even hit the jumps in a line.
They also had a shit ton more snow, support, people this year and as far as i know never built any of the other parks up even though theyre advertised. (I couldnt build them but the one progression park was literally dirt 85% of the season)
Idk. That just rubs me the wrong way. More like a circus than a park. I love season small mtns do well, but thats a retarded strategy imo.
Maybe im being a dick but Ive been watching them claim these stupid jumps all season. Then again, what do u or anyone that works in the industry know about anything. Hell even the biggest parksin the world are focussing on progression parks to bring people up. And photoshoots and carnival stuff is for the spring.
Its great they have the support, its great they have 4+ people instead of 1-2, but jesus christ start building and let that speak for itself. The claim fest is so cheesy it hurts.
Holy fuck Im done now lol.
That post about the 92 footer had be LOLWUTing all day.

I was gonna get sourcey but they posted these today. Also looks like they shrunk the small side. When they were testing it the other day everyone cased it by a ton. The big one should be interesting. Seriously fucking hope nobody gets hurt. I don't get how peoples safety is worth the claim action but whatever.
What the fuck mountain opens a 92 footer to the public. Especially in a 3 jump line of baby jumps and a 6 or 7 pass wide park. Sweet jesus this is ridiculous.
Also at a mountain that in the next decade probably should never build more than a 45'. And even though they've advertised they still haven't built any of their other parks even with a good season.
Granted I designed those parks and didn't build them, but last season on the east was a joke and the one park was literally mud 85% of the season. The other park wasn't worth the snow as it ran parallel to the main park.
But insane.
I think we have 18 or 19 jumps where I work. Have a line that's upper 50's to 70' and change, Still don't have anything over 75'. If we built a 90' people would ride it. But what's the point mid season?
When you have 3 jumps and you build one of them into a 90 footer. Idk, I don't get it. It comes off as claimy. When non stop they've been posting "biggest in the east" "huge jumps" Check out our 67 footer" " sendy on the 67 footer" look at our 92 footer" it's obvious it is.
I hate talking shit about parks. I really can't do it. But at a certain point, stop claiming and just build. Build a cohesive park. that works for your demographic. Set it up awesome, put the effort in, and let the park speak for itself.
No need for novelties and claims. Build it proper, and the praise and customer base will follow.
I see hashtags like #itsallaboutthekids. Is it really? If it was they'd be building something that actually fit the demographic and building their base.
Idk. Place has unreal potential but they're dropping the ball hard. At least they didn't abandon the parks. Maybe next year it will click for them? I hope so.

Looks flat. But doesn't look like 90ft in those pics to me and it looks stopover-y so fairly low consequence considering. But yeah doesn't look amazing haha

I mean i doubt all of there measurements but its pretty big. At a certain point low consequence is a relative term. You knuckle on anything over 60 and youll be feeling it.
jford21its just a new arrangement not any new feature...
I'm going to guess that you shouldn't put the blame on the park crew
It's safe to assume that if they had new jibs they would set them up
but I'm getting the feeling that your mountain isn't buying or welding any new steel so the crew is doing all that they can by setting up the same jibs in different ways
Also if your in Southern NH you should try to make your way to Carinthia - if variety in your features is what you seek then c-parks can take care of that for you ;)

Landing doesn't even look to steep, whole thing looks like it just shoots you straight and low, for a 92 footer. Crotcheds big air jump like 7 years ago was about a little smaller than than. The edit has a lot of knuckle death shots or overshoots.

"getting sendy 📬 on the 💲booter. We really wanted to turn up the heat for the last couple weeks this season for the professionals - Come check out the NEW 92' step down (100' to sweet). Accompanied by many other features, opening tomorrow. #snowboarding #s"
Idk man i heard mark mcmorris, tom wallisch, nick g and more are all on there way there to train
Apparently thats the only jump and there are 3 rails setup. Considering they have 4 or 5 people on the park crew I wouldnt call that "getting it done this season" .
So much claiming this season, nothing for results though. Kind of fucked. Hopefully they reconsider and replace said jump with something that isnt retarded.
