SkianPI'm park crew and I actually care about my park a lot, as I ski it a lot. I change things all the time and keep it in really good shape and we have good progression. Also my ski hill is 300 feet of vert in Ontario.
Mr.BishopWhich hill?
jford21Im from NH and the park crew up here is cool but they lack creativity its like normal flat bars and dance floors and a 30 40 and 60 ft jump line. Is your park crew super sick and creative? and where are you located?
Titus69Where are you OP? Im at Crotched usually, they always build all the parks up in 2 or 3 weeks but after just stop caring for it or dont change it. They literally use the same rails every year and mostly in the same way, they arent even changing their rail jam setup for the second one this year...and it sucks ass. Thing about crotched is that the features arent so dangerous them selves but the way they can be put setup are.
lilgapaboiI ski at hyland hills in minnesota and the "park crew" just started caring after they were harassed on instagram.
darthlobster603yeah ive always been a little sketched out by crotcheds parks. jumps are ok but the rails can do from a fun challenge to damn near insane over a few weeks.
i dont know what their situation is but i know some smaller mountains have the 50 year old head of ski patrol run the park staff and it can be a bit of a frustrating joke. i still love crotched though. cant beat their midnight madness.
Titus69The jumps are ass in recent years. Lips are always to poppy or to flat and they have been grooming them like retards lately. Landings for the "bigger" jumps haven't had a sweet spot longer than 2 feet in a few years, overshoot or somehow knuckle.
One park right now is fun, but for 8 runs. They said it was gonna change by now basically but maybe after all the new snow this week. But yes midnight madness/night skiing there is so fun.
darthlobster603What they should do is just make the "zero G" park a rhythm and progressive jump line with each table going up a few feet. its got that steep spot where you could have huge steep landings and wouldnt have to worry about going too big. then they could just turn CS park into a rail garden where they could have three or four features wide down the mountain with smaller jibs in between. and like with the jumps have the easier stuff up top so you work your way down to the bigger stuff at the bottom so kids who might not have the confidence usually can build that confidence up on the way down.
The way that mountain is set up and the whole vibe or the locals and the area could make for an excellent small mountain park scene (like whats coming up out of pats peak the last few years). I just wish they were more innovative with what they have and at least had more fun with it.
Randy_Quenchwhere in NH?
You gotta realize that a lot of the smaller NH resorts don't have the resources to put into having an awesome park.
mr-mcsteezeIm on the park crew at my home mountain and we just get constantly screwed on how much snow they give us to build sick creative features on it. Right now my park doesnt even have a jump cause mountain ops doesnt have the snow to give us to build it.
Dont get me wrong it sucks when stuff like this happens but when you get really comfertable on features like the same rails and jumps it give you a set thing that you get used to hitting and that you can progress a lot on. Have you tried doing new variations of tricks you can already do? like switch spins, lazboys, unnatural spins, etc. try to think of new ways to hit features that are already set up. There are so many things you could practice if your park has a jump line like that
also very jealous that you have that kind of jump line. The biggest we have set is a 25 footer and we had to rebuild it cause to many jerrys
jford21What mountain?
jford21and a 30 40 and 60 ft jump line.
jford21My Home man is Gunstock... i realize that budget and creativity is limited by the mountain but its been awesome before now its just the same each season... every time theres a rebuild its just a new arrangement not any new feature...
MalcolmThe main park at smuggs is hilariously bad. It has nasty looking booters with no landings. Their smaller park, birch run, is sick though.

Randy_QuenchAgain, some of these mountains have different agendas than to invest in parks. Smuggs is a perfect example of a mountain that doesn't need to cater to park skiers. Smuggs has always prided themselves on the natural terrain. They don't need parks or fancy lifts, just a heap of snow.
Going to Smuggs for its terrain parks is like going to Loon during vacation week for the short lift lines.
Randy_QuenchGunstock has a park nicely positioned away from the rest of the general public with it's own lift! How can you even begin to complain? It's a relatively small family mountain, and the features they put up are big when you look at it with that perspective. I'd assume the only reason it isn't any bigger or built with more intense features is because 99% of the people who ski through the park are Papa Jerry and his three Jerryite kids.
In the end, you live a reasonable driving distance to other mountains that focuses on parks and not families if Gunstock isn't your cup of tea.
.otto.sometimes park crew simply doesnt care- or they dont have the market for it- the general public may just be normal skiers so they dont focus on marketing towards them
my home hill is 70% park skiers/snowboarders
as a result they make sure to keep their shit up to par and creative
lukromi ski at bittersweet ski area in michigna and my park crew make crazy hard feature and it hard to learn anything but jump tricks. We have a "mini" park but the rail is still like a foot off the ground and it scares me to learn how to hit it because it has like a six inch lip. they never groom the feature that they make they do it like twice a day and fix half the park and do the other half later. They realy need to get some things together. we have two pros that skis in our park we have spencer milbocker and mike hornbeck. the only good thing is the jumps we have a three jump line and those are good but the knuckle gets really divited out form people caseing them ans them you need to come in with way to much speed and the take-offs get messed up form jerrys and gappers going over them. note to all jerrys and gappers GET OUT OF THE WAY AND CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YOURSELF IT BIGGER THAN YOU THINK.
baitJay Peak park crew is comprised of all snowboarders which makes for a ton hilariously bad features which include but are not limited to:
rails sticking out of the ground
boxes3 feet up on a spine facing sideways
a bonk where if you get enough speed to hit the bonk you overshoot
a tiny jump line where the speed is too funky to take all jumps to the sweet spot
far too much corrugated
industrial spools made of wood
a 2 ft wide staircase with a ladder
They think their all creative and cool yet there is only one rail longer than 8 feet and two which are like 5, as well as probably the shittiest step down which takes 3 tries to get the right speed.
NickSodlAlso sometimes depending on your mountain, they have restrictions on what you can do with the park. Basically what I'm saying is sometimes the park crew wants to do more but the mountain restricts them to do so.

cp_7Jake wtf are you talking about dude... I've got a couple issues with this post so I'll start from shortest to type and finish with longest
first) You never leave the mini progression park in sidearm, so blundersmoke's features don't really concern you
second) You can't even slide a flat rail so who are you to complain about size or creativity of features
third) The triple line went as follows: 10 ft, 20 ft, 40 ft. The double line set up for the comp was as follows: 10 feet, 45 feet. Never has gunstock EVER had a 60 footer. Waterville and loon at the only NH mountains with jumps of that proportion.
fourth) Park crew runs on a limited budget, restricted by the mountain, which is restricted y the county. Gunstock is county owned land so all of their features, in and out of the park, need to be up to par. Rails can't be too crazy and jumps have to have a back side so jerries can roll over them. The park this year was all time. They are working with a limited amount of downhill space, and they crushed it. The jumps were great, the rails were just technical enough, and the park crew worked their ass off to keep it tip-top DESPITE the constant melting and refreezing and snowing and melting again.
Thank park crew haus, they slayed both blundersmoke and side arm this year. If you don't like it, go north or something man. Rob and the rest of the guys worked with what they had, which isn't much.
end rant

JakeBarrettIdk how you can complain about your park and state that you have a 3 jump line up to 60ft in the same post.... count yourself lucky
MalcolmThe skiing at Smuggs is absolutely insane, I won't deny that. I'm also a strong proponent of antique chairlifts. The mountain doesn't get as tracked out as quickly, they drive impatient people away and the fact that they're double chairs makes for good conversation. A decent park would really add though. I don't agree that the park should blow just because the mountain is amazing. It hasn't always been this bad. They used to have a superpipe over on Madonna and a nice jump line next to the t-bar. But like I said, birch run is always a lot of fun.
A-cAllIf they aren't getting the people there because the slow lifts drive them away, they won't have enough money to throw at a park either, and a lot of kids focus is moving to quick park laps.
My favorite mountain on earth is 4 double chair riblets, has some of the most amazing terrain on hood, but the park is very subpar compared to timberline or meadows. Rope tow is cool sometime though.
