Powder skis on rails?

i want a secons pair of skis fatter than my b-dogs if i get a powder skis would i be able to hit rails and if so what am i risking by doing it.

I mean theres a higher risk of damaging your edges and bases. But powder skis in the park can be interesting. Forster Meeks does it quite well thats for sure.

It all depends on the brand and durability. I used K2 Pettitor 120's in the park for two years and had a blast. They held up fine (thanks k2) and it didn't take long to get used to them on rails. It is a bit tougher to do more tech tricks, but they're definitely fun. I've even used my hellbents. Again, it's all about edge construction of that brand.

Why would you buy powder skis if you're going to use them on rails?

i had hellbents and while they were technically shit in everything except blower pow, they had a shit ton of rocker and were super soft so they were extremely fun to fuck around on and butter around. surfaces swaps were a breeze with them. but they're really heavy so it will deffs affect your techy rail tricks. jumps were fine though, i could still rip cork 7s on 20ft jumps with them.

in conclusion, hellbents are super impractical for anything other than pow, yet super fun if you take er slow.

I bought a beater pair of Night Trains a while back and rode park on them for two seasons. Got in some "midwestern pow" every now & again but it was definitely worth the $180 price tag for the fun I had on them. Not to mention they kill it in slushy spring conditions..

In response to the OP, they're definitely more sluggish on rails but if you're getting a used pair or killer deal with the hope to use em in soft snow eventually I wouldn't shy away from it.

Ive got a pair of b-dogs as well but i love taking my jjs in the park sometimes. They are so buttery and surprisingly easy to slide rails. basically just a wider, more rockered version of my b-dogs

I have a pair of Nordica Patrons that I have downgraded to my work(patrol) ski. TAFT came to Cannon while I was working so I hit a few rails and won 10 bucks /claim. It can be done, I was pretty surprised at how well they slid.

i have sir francis bacons. they do great in the powder and park. 104mm waist width. I think it is the perfect width.

i live in michigan WE GET AT MOST 3-4 ACTUAL POW DAYS also i live 45 minuets away from my resort i dont want to bring two pair of skis on a pow day and i want to be able to ski pow and ride park on pow days and i wold get armada majic j, j skis friend skis, or the revision subtraction skis.

I've skied 108-110 waisted skis in the park for 10 years.

The only risk you're looking at is quicker rounding of your edges. I don't mean dulling them, I mean the edge under foot twisting to the point where the tabs in the base (don't know what they're called) will start to poke through. That being said, it takes a tons of days of heavy rail use to get to that point. I'm talking like 60+ days lapping a rope tow. Your skis are meant to be skied. Anyone who tells you pow skis can't handle the park has either never done it consistently or are disastering dfd's to flat or doing that stair slide shit. In that case, yes they'll get wrecked quickly.

Fuck yeah they are...the obscene amount of rocker makes them float like a mother fucker. I have rode mine in multiple 20+inch days and a couple 30+ and no tip dive. Things shred hard
