Lack of progression rails

I feel like they are only a few necessities in the park as far as rails. A flat tube to learn swaps on, A down rail to learn spins off of and some variation of a kink rail. They do not have to be exactly what I just described but they are necessary for progression. I for one do not want to learn 270 on to an up rail or switch ups on a donkey dick. Maybe I am just being a pussy but my local park does not seem to understand this. Do your guys' parks have this same problem? I want to learn new tricks but there seems to be nothing to learn them on without dying if I mess up.

We didnt have a flat rails for almost 2 months so that might say something. They also seem to set up the best rails in the worst spots. We dont actually have a park crew, just a maintenance crew

I feel you 100%. I am switching resorts and making my drive go from 20 min to 60 min just because i am tired of the park crew not doing anything.

you only need like two rails to learn shit on, everything else can be what ever you want. Our park has none. But thank god they put two rainbow rails up.

Yeah park here sucks we have a shit ton of rails just sitting collecting dust and so much space but they never set shit up we have a few rails but we could have such an incredible park but park crew sucks.

if you cant do a swap yet then you shouldnt be trying 270 on IMO because youre probably not comfortable with rails enough. Just either send for your tricks on hard rails or talk to the park crew though.

different trick are easier for different people. 270 on is easier than switchups because i dont have to ride the rail unnatural. not everyone learns tricks in the same order...

Bad is the wrong word, we certainly have good rails and the equiptment to have a great park. They just are put in super stupid configurations that dont make sense

i think you can learn spins on spins off and switchups all on a tube so idk who the fuck would wanna learn spins out of a down rail? or learn them onto one. and yeah i agree with the kinked rail being a necessity. At my park we have a shit ton of rails my only quarrel is that the rainbow and battelship rails at the bottom of the park have almost no lip so you slam into it instead of matching the up part

I work at a pretty small hill in Ontario as park crew and our park has pretty alright progression for only having one hill for it and having 300 feet of vert. We've got a box line with three boxes, a little flat rail, a pvc rainbow and a small jump for the kids, then a down box rail, a flat tube, an urban on down tube, an urban dfd, an A-frame tube, an urban on bar and a cannon. Along with two big jumps. I couldn't ski park before I started working there, and can now 2 on, both way swaps, 2s and 4s off and all kinds of flips. I guess it just depends on the place and ability (and care levels) of the park crew.

they put a flat tube up, but then paralell with it to the left is a down tube. So if you fuck up and fall off early one of your tips is gonna run right into the face of it. The number of rails isnt always the problem. its how and where they put them in. another example is the "sausage rail" its like a tube but three feet off the ground. perfect for learning spins on to when set up as a flat rail. this year its an uprail.

i feel you man, there is another mountain about 30 minutes from my house (Labrador Mountain), they have about 50 rails and boxes just sitting at the top of one of their trails. They haven't been set up in 2 years. One of them is a 6+ foot tall pyramid jib. It pisses me off that the mountain doesn't even make an effort to set them up ever since they switched owners.

tell me about it. song just doesn't want the freestyle kids coming there tho cause they're like a bring your kids mountain not a smoke pot and dress like a thug mountain. lab sucks too. toggs decent, havent ridden togg yet this year tho

You could build the most ridiculously creative combo features but at the end of the day flat rails, down rails and flat boxes will be the most sessioned features. Especially if they're set up properly.

Sometimes people get a bit carried away and forget the essentials.

To OP, Im skiing at a mountain this year that has literally 1 feature that isnt urban. It is a cannon. Im not at the point of learning basic tricks anymore, but I definitely can't do all the tricks I normally can since urban onto every rail definitely increases the trick difficulty. That said, I see kids at this park that have probably been there for their entire life and they are absolutely killing it. Learning on legit features may be scary as fuck, but it will also make you better. You just need to figure out if its worth it for you.

There are also the basic rails, just urban.

Dude I would kill for those features. All we have are flat bars, rainbows, a battleship and a cannon. Not to mention a corrugated tube

Im not complaining about the lack of features im saying the way in which the park is set up was not smart. our park is good rn but it has the potential to be so much better. It pisses me off because our hill has the rescources to kick trollhaugens ass and have the sickest park in the midwest. But troll straight out cares more and puts more effort into it. thats why they are so good with so little (the size of the hill, not the amount of features)

There's barely anything to try / learn stuff on in my home moutain's park this year. There isn't even a proper down rail set up. I'm a fan of creative setups, but you gotta have both. Every park should have at least a good down rail, a flat rail to learn tricks on, and like a good double kink.

The worst of all is that the park crew doesn't even make plans for the park, which leads to things like having 4 flat down rails/boxes and not a single good down rail.
