Another "help me with my research paper thread"

Whats up newschoolers, in my advanced composition class we have been assigned a research paper on our future career. More specifically new trends that are impacting the industry. I have refrained from writing papers on skiing for a long time but since i plan on working in the industry it seems like i could actually pull this paper off.

At this stage im just spit balling ideas but one idea would be the affect of "micro brew" companies or small companies that are considered more "core" than the big corporate companies.

We have to explore the positives and negatives of this. Theres are numerous positives I can think of right off the bat; company leaders seem to care more about the industry and their product, skis are being "handmade" (to what extent they are handmade is up for debate, but some are "more handmade" than some of the big corporate companies), and lastly with more companies comes more competition leading to more innovative designs and higher quality. These are just a few

Now we also have to look at the negatives and heres where I think I will run into trouble.

I can think of two so far. With smaller companies the skis are more expensive. This also affects the kids whos parents are the ones buying the skis. What are they gonna do? Also the loss of sponsorships by major ski companies like k2 and Rossignol. Now these ski companies might not go under but they may drop a lot of their "flow" riders.

Do you guys see any other downsides? maybe from a buisness standpoint? I know this is kind of a hot topic right now so I feel like it would make a good research paper. I also will need articles to back up my argument and they most likely will not be on an educational database so if you know any reputable ones post them below or pm them to me.


DISCLAIMER: IN THIS THREAD SUBJECT I KNOW I HAVE MADE SOME BROAD GENERALIZATIONS ABOUT THE SKI INDUSTRY. I WOULD APPRECIATE IF YOU DO NOT BASH THESE IDEAS OR START AN ARGUMENT. CERTAINLY LET ME KNOW THE HOLES IN THIS ARGUMENT AS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THEM BUT PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL! Feel free to post your $.02 I am not looking for you guys to write my paper for me im just looking for some ideas, counter arguments and other helpful info to point me in the right direction. 1. You could have written your research paper with the time it took to write this. It seems like you have your points and counterpoints already laid out...

Original question was what would a counterpoint be. I feel like there is a something big i am missing when it comes to the cons of small ski companies

Also I know I have good points but, I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some credible articles. The articles I am looking for are not going to be on a tradtional database.

Bump

one thing I have been wondering is: are their any small ski companies with an emphasis on racing? I have no experience with the racing industry but I feel like there is more money in it. Are the atheletes payed more? Is their such a thing as being "core" when it comes to racing? I feel like ski racing and big corporate sponsors go hand in hand. Maybe I am wrong, anyone have any insight?

they may not care about being core but some of the smaller companies are starting to recieve some spotlight and consumers may be inclined to buy them. Also the average weekend warrior probable does not have a quiver of skis or even buys a new pair of skis every year or two years.

You need to slow down a bit. You can't write about the ENTIRE industry... Adjust your scope and write a thesis.

So what is impacting the industry? Climate change, changes in style, ... Also be clear on which sector of the industry that you want to work in.

A few things:
I plan on working for a ski company after i graduate from college with a two year associates degree in ski buisness and two more years to earn a major in
buisness / management.

the trend has to be arguable so climate change would not work. since little to no people in the ski industry would be for climate change and see it as a positive.

Writing an essay on how style has changed from xxl tall tees to the goodwill kit, arm flailing maniacs on noodles for skis might not be what the teacher is looking for. (not hating btw it is unique style, but I definitely rock a pair of bibs sometimes when I ski. Some people do take it a bit to far though just like in anything)

The trend also has to be recent from at least 3 years ago or newer. Small ski companies have always been around but with the recent sale of k2 to rubbermaid (I believe it was rubbermaid correct me if I am wrong) and the rise popularity of smaller ski companies. ON3P for example. Two years ago not many people had really known them but now everyone is recommending the kartel and on the hype train. Some of it may be just due to their popularity on the site, kind of like how full tilts used to be the answer for every boot question. But a large amount of it is due to the fact that they are handmade, ski great, are virtually indestructable and have tons of other positives that you may not find in other companies. Companies maybe like k2 or other big competitors.
