Tell me about big sky montana

Big sky has much, much more to offer than park skiing. I would suggest skiing the mountain.

Big Sky's park is nothing special honestly, but the mountain is awesome. People coming to Montana to ski park have the wrong idea...

Big Sky is one of the sickest mountains in North America. Just look at Lone Peak, it is supposed to be nuts. I ski Mammoth most weekends and Big Sky is one of the few places I would plan a trip to other than AK. I have heard it is up there with Squaw, Jackson, Whistler, the very steepest mountains on this continent. Why the fuck would you worry about park when you are skiing a mountain like that? If you want to that is your choice, but unless the steeps are ice sheets you should not bother with the park. Seriously, why ski park when you have all that rad terrain? It is a huge waste. You can ski park anywhere, why not take advantage of the sick terrain? Unless you heli-ski in AK every weekend you might as well take advantage of what the mountain has to offer. What you are saying is the equivalent of going to the North Shore and asking how the small waves are. You can surf small waves at home, take advantage of being at one of the steepest sickest mountains anywhere and ski off of Lone Peak. Save the park for when you get home. I'm sorry to be a broken record but I can't fathom why someone would worry about park at a mountain like Big Sky. If you want to do that I won't hold it against you, it's your choice and does not affect me, but park will always be there. The steep terrain of Big Sky won't. If you don't take advantage of that what is the point of going there. Unless you ski Squaw or Jackson all the time and skiing a sick mountain is your daily deal make the most of where you are. Of course if you ski Squaw or Jackson you can probably handle steep terrain and you will won't waste your time in the park. But like I said, if you want to blow a great opportunity it does not make you a bad person, I just hope you know what you are missing.

I'll be out there Feb 25th - to March 5th. I'm stoked. Just look at their conditions report, the list goes on forever. Why ski park when you have all this to explore?

You dont ski park at BS. Grab a ride on the tram and ride a real mountain like its meant to be hit! Like others have said if you want park cancel your trip and rebook for CO.

Sorry I'm from Minnesota land of tow ropes and parks so I just went with my natural thoughts when I typed this. I will definitely be skiing A LOT of everything else out there to make that clear.

Ski everywhere but the park, and practice your self arrest before you go.

Nothing wrong with hitting the park at a mountain like that. Might as well see everything it has to offer. I had a gas at Jackson Hole taking some park laps.

However yeah... I mean mountain like that check it all out man. Especially when you're from the midwest... Big Sky will blow your fucking mind.

Pretty much this. Big Sky is the reason I started loving big mountain so much, and probably the reason moved to Tahoe to ski squaw and push myself. It's such a sick mountain

I'm from Bozeman so I ski Big Sky every weekend. The mountain is rad but you will most likely see my friends and I shredding Park. There are two main parks, 1 on the big Sky side (swifty) and 1 on the moonlight side (peacemaker). They usually don't get completely filled in till late season but their still fun. We ski park 90% of the time there are plenty of other park rats here. I know people will get triggered for me saying that but whatevs. But if it's your first time at Big Sky explore everywhere... It's insane...

What everyone else has said pretty much. Good zones to check out are lone tree, the face and lower obsidian has tons of natty hits and it's a great place to hot lap. Shedhorn and Dakota are awesome if they aren't on wind hold, dope tree skiing and if you ski the peak you end up there anyway. Thunderwolf has some awesome pillow lines and smaller cliff drops. Honestly, anywhere is gonna be fun. Snow stays good for a while after storms so just poke around and explore and you're guaranteed to have a great time

I mean a lot can be said about snow conditions vs what you ski. No one wants to drop into the gullies when its bullet proof (I've experienced it, not fun, unless crons is popping off then its worth it) so sure, skiing park at BS is completely understandable.

OP if it snows, there is endless terrain to ski, if it doesn't, check out some cool terrain, take some park laps, you're gonna have a great time.

A friend and I are heading out to Big Sky next month and was wondering how the parks were this year or in recent years. I know there are 7 parks but wanted to know if they are well maintained and how good the features are. Any info would be great.

Never been there, but you ski wherever you like. If it's park, then go for it!
It's like Ye Haw On The Mo Fo and go! I ski anywhere on Mt Bachelor, yet I can be found in parks most often and I don't even hit anything but a jump from time to time and maybe 50-50 a box. Shine the haters who say you have to "explore". You can do whatever you like. You only need to please yourself. In time your taste will change, but just let it happen when you want it to.

Big sky is so much fun and the park is decent. The mountain has so much to offer
