How to do a ski trip to Killington the cheapest way.
I'm trying to get a ski trip to Killington going over winter break, and I needed to figure out the cheapest way to do it. I live south of Buffalo, so the gas is basically the cheapest part. I'm just trying to figure out the cheapest place to stay, I was thinking about a cabin maybe. Around here there's a few state parks, like Allegany where you can get heated cabins all year round and figured there might be something similar near Killington. Any advice?
I'm not sure about cabins in the area since I have family near Killington, but I would recommend staying about 30 minutes outside of Killington to save some money. Vermont has a lot of Bed and Breakfasts that are nice and cheap (and have breakfast)
There are 50ish dollar hotels at Killington and in Rutland. You can find for around that price in Killy itself for any day but Saturday. So if you want to save some one night drive 10 miles to Rutland if its a Saturday or just stay in Rutland the entire time.
Killy is popular and quite custy. Just liftopia 3 or 4 days however long you are going there for you simply aren't skiing there for cheap during peak season the multiple days and liftopia diiscount will help. Other New England hills have better midweek discounts and liftopia prices. But you'll get a decent amount off the window if you liftopia multiple days early.
I ski Stowe but we stopped in Killy to see Badfish and hang with friends last weekend. It has the best apres and nightlife on the east. Just get on expedia and priceline and liftopia etc etc and pay early. If 70-80 a day lift tickets and 60 dollar hotel rooms are too much I guess you should chose another destination.
Honestly I'd rather stay in Burlington and ski Smuggs, Jay, Sugarbush, MRG, or Stowe. But thats more driving even if its better terrain and cheaper tickets.

Honestly Killington was more of a jumping off point than anything. I'm not really committed on to going to Killington, just Vermont in general. I'm ok with the drive as long as I'm keeping under 7-8 hours. Cheaper is better and ill definitely keep looking at some other places. Anything is going to be insane to me in comparison to WNY
i think you should really try to get up to whiteface, if you have never been there. I assure you it will be a fucking amazing experience. Their park is decent, and there is alot more to do than just skiing in lake placid. If you really want to stay in vermont im guessing okemo is quite a bit cheaper thank killington.
I just got back from Okemo and am also unfortunate enough to be stuck in WNY. Bristol and Holiday get old fast. Try to find cheap motels 20 mins or so from the mountain. Go for the weekday/multi day passes (got a deal on mine on liftopia). And most importantly, cook your own food if you can. I spent like $25 individually for 4 days worth of food with some friends (make sandwiches, cook dinner, etc). Eating on the mountain or going out to eat will drain your wallet.
I've lived in cny my entire life and have driven to vt more times than I can count to go skiing and the one thing I try to do is spend a day at gore, whiteface or even snow ridge if they have good snow. It breaks the trip up. I always sleep in my vehicle and bring a cooler full of munchies. Buying passes ahead of time will save money, but being locked in to one resort can be frustrating if you know conditions are better somewhere else. It can be raining at killington but dumping at jay. Or windy at jay and bluebird at kilo.
