I had a pvc rail in my backyard with another rail following it and i hit the edge if it cutting my base. Should i just cut the piece of the base off sticking out and get it filled at a shop or is there nothing i can do?
Ya basically cut off the piece of base sticking out, and if you want you could do it yourself. Just clean your base and buy some Ptex (black if your base is black and clear if it is any other color) and basically you use a blowtorch to light it like a candle and drip it in the gash slowly around the edge of it to let it sink in, and while your at it fill in anything else. You gotta slowly do the big ones though and let it semi dry before continuing or else it will just bubble up and pop. after your done you just scrape it with a metal scraper. Or you could just take it into a shop and let them do it. If you do that you don't have to cut anything off or do anything, they'll do it for ya.
Also by the way if you wanna prevent that again, sand down the PVC pipe with a belt sander so it doesn't have those sharp edges at the end of it. Or at the end of any other part of your rail. Save you some ski, time, and money.
Is there exposed core? Ig there is, I'd epoxy it, as ptex does not hold well to core shots well, but if it just peeled some back, cut out what is necessary and fill in with ptex.
