So I screwed up my skis... and then fixed them

There is this place on my home mountain called the boneyard where rarely people come out with their skis undamaged. There are a bunch of sick doubles and some bigger drops in the area and I thought there would be enough snow for me to be able to avoid all the rocks under them but apparently not. I got a a few scratches but it wasn't really a big deal because I was on my rock skis. But what concerned me the most was the core shot I woke up to find the next morning. I was really concerned about how it got there because I didn't really think I hit anything that hard on the mountain. Luckily I recently started working at a ski shop and was being trained on how to use the equipment and when my boss saw what I did to my skis he thought it would be the perfect time for me to learn. After 6 hours of p-texing, welding, grinding, and waxing the skis are finally back to a working condition.

it was also the name of a park at waterville valley NH years ago. i remember it being sick as a gaper landing on the deck every hit

It was more then just that little core shot but the skis had many scrapes and gouges in them, since it was my first time using professional grade equipment to fix them it took a bit longer than expected

If those skis weren't in working condition, then my rock boards would be considered as destroyed beyond repair... Unless you have over a foot of edge missing from the underfoot or main contact points of your skis, they're perfectly rideable.

Also, sorry to bash on your coreshot repairing skills but 6 hours is alot for a lil chip like that. My buddy handed me a ptex gun at the shop he works at and told me to repair my own shot because he was too busy. After 15-20 mins, the four core shots were dug out, filled, and scraped and my skis were looking brand spanking new. That being said, at least you got it repaired correctly and now they're in tip top working condition.

for the core shot I wasn't using ptex (you also shouldn't) I was using what is called a weld that Is designed to repair the spot and stick to the core and the base layer of the ski while still being able to flex with the core. I was using ptex for the countless other spots that were not core shots but deep gouges. I can admit it took much longer than expected but this was my first time using ptex.
