How do I keep my phone from dying in the cold?

theabortionatorIf that's something you want to be prepared for get one of those shitty flip phones for your pack. Battery lasts for like 5 days on those things.

It's not about battery life, but rather to protect the lithium battery, the phone shuts down when it reaches a certain degree. I feel like since flip phones have lithium batteries too, they would shut down as well. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Smart phone batteries die wayyy faster

they die way faster, but what I mean is even if you're skiing glades inbounds you may as well shut it down until you need it. It doesn't take much to heat it up stationary if you're in a bind. Throw it in your armpit or whatever for 2 minutes and you can easily make a 911 call.

Guy I came across had a completely dead phone, his legs were fucked and it was last run, I've warmed up 3-5 year old iPhones with my armpit to make a call and have it die. I know having an emergency phone would be idea, but for the average skiier it's best just to turn it off if you're not using it.
