VinnieFI don't agree with everyone saying "because she has no results" because eheath said it in another thread. Only 5 females have been invited to slopestyle. half what were invited for female slopestyle in snowboarding and way less then mens ski or snowboard.
The big reason she wasn't invited is because x games doesn't want to put much time and effort into women's ski events. There are a ton of females out there with both the results and skill to compete with who they did invite (2 of who barely have any comp results either), but they aren't invited either. Seems to me x games just wants a quick 5 person slopestyle contest that can be done and out of the way quickly so they can focus on events that will bring in more $$.
eheathIts based off of rankings, you get highly ranked by doing contests. From what i can tell, xgames took it directly from the ranks for both displines.
Lisa is 74 in Slopestyle, 6th in big air rankings. Emma is hurt so she got into big air.
Yes we all know Lisa is better than most girls in contests, but she knows it herself that xgames is the premiere event for afp and if youre not at the top of the rankings you dont get invited, period. There is nothing we can do, welcome to contest skiing.
VinnieFI wonder if they do the same for mens snowboarding. If Shawn White was still competing and he was ranking 1 out from a spot there's no way in hell they wouldn't invite him. I feel like x games does whatever they think will make the most money. So maybe for female skiing they don't care and will just pick the top few to quickly push through an hour competition so they can wash their hands of that and say they promote women's sports. But for the money events I'd be surprised if they went entirely off rankings. Otherwise they'd invite more than 5 girls if they cared about making it into a good competition.

JibberinoYou don't find it problematic that the military uses "cool" sports to make being in the military cool? You don't find it problematic that, as Andy mentioned, the socioeconomic demography of the military is so messed up, that basically it's poor people dying for rich people? You don't find the US military's involvement in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya problematic?List is even longer if we go further back.
I find it completely perverted that the X-Games and Dew Tour would partner up with the military to support poor people travelling across the worl to kill other poor people. I'm not watching that shit anymore.

Lol. It's very obviously advertisement. For the vast majority of folks, especially those from poorer shit backgrounds enlistment is one of if not the best option for them. GI Bill, learning discipline and trades, job skills and very good benefits. I went to school with a bunch of folks on the GI Bill, and I know a bunch of very happy successful adults from the milatary who are thankful they were in it.
In short, no I see nothing wrong with the military advertising the benefits of joining.
