Kartel 108 vs Kartel 98 vs Magnus

Hey! I have managed to sell my old pair of skis and am looking to buy a new pair. After doing some research, I've narrowed it down to the following 3: ON3P's kartel 108, kartel 98, or Magnus. Here's a little about me

I'm about 5'8 and 140lbs. I used to ski on a set of 2013/2014 Line Blends but found that their edge hold wasn't too good at times, especially on ice. I would describe myself as an intermediate-advanced type skiier, comfortable on all runs. I ski 80% piste and 20% park, but even then I'm just starting to get into park so it's mostly groomed runs on piste. That being said, I like going fast and I like to jump around the mountain and go off-piste if the conditions permit. I try to ski switch from time to time. I ski a lot in the Alps, but will be heading to Whistler in the spring on exchange and possibly Japan too. I know I'm asking for quite a lot but I'm basically looking for a one-ski quiver that's better than the Blends; something that's sturdy and can hold an edge but is also fun.

Any advice? And also any advice on where to mount the skis? I'm leaning towards the Magnus and just mounting them -1 from center for piste performance (as advised by the great wizard Magnus himself) but I am worried a bit about its performance in powder/ slushy snow. That being said I've heard nothing but good things about the Magnus and I don't even get to ski powder that often. Maybe it'll be an excuse to get a pair of powder skis ^^

One more question: what size should I get them in? I'm about 171cm. Would 176 be too long?

I had the same decision to make and went with the K98.
Good compromise of park and all mountain capabilities, not too fat for the icy and artifical snow days we do get in the alps but still a lot of fun off piste. Magnus would be too much park ski for me, especially if you are only 20% in the park..

If you like a fatter ski and want to take that ski to whistler and japan, I would probably go for the 108

Actually I was quite surprised how stiff it was when I got it... though its got a ton of rocker which makes it playful.

I feel it likes to go really fast, could have sonething to do with the recommened mount point I went to compared with my center mounted park ski

Personally I'd go 176, it may seem large but you'll enjoy it when you get them, especially with mostly outside park laps. I'm same height, a little lighter and find my 170s are starting to get outgrown. I'm hopefully picking up a pair of 185 pow sticks

UPDATE: i went with the 176s and you were right! only felt a bit long when i was skiing trees but that's something i'll have to improve on. other than that they were super stable at high speeds, so responsive, carved really really well, held an edge on ice, no topsheet chipping/ damage after 5 hard days of charging etc. need i go on? would definitely recommend. the hype is real.

Update: I picked up those 185 pow sticks and they are a blast. Hope you enjoy your Kartels

I happy you went with that size and ski for sure good choice! Like you said tree skiing will just be something that you will have to get used to, but it shouldn't take to long of a time! Also Insaneeely jealous about the Japan trip you may be headed on. Let us know how it is and where you end up skiing!
