Riding switch

I can ride switch but it looks awful. I've seen vids on looking all the behind me and keeping one ski in front of the other but I always catch an edge. How can I ski switch but make it look clean?

Stagger your skis with your most downhill ski being the one on the side of the shoulder that you are looking over

Do it whenever you're not in the park, that's all it takes. It's so much more fun to ski a groomer switch than it is forward, if you want extra credit sw 0 all the side booters.

Odds are you aren't staggering your skis enough. Lean forwards, line your right/left knee up with your left/right heel and try to hold an edge opposite the shoulder you're looking over to prevent going flat and catching one.

I got better at skiing switch when I got a center mounted powder ski. It's like steering an aircraft carrier, you'll bash through anything with confidence.

The difficulty in skiing switch is perfecting the turn/shoulder look. If you don't use both shoulders you won't be able to go fast and stay in control because you will be blind on half of your turns. Focus on that as much as anything when you practice on a mellow green. Hitting a jump switch is different you want to only look over one shoulder in the run up.

Another thing that worked for me is to stay on edge the whole time making long G-turns on a mellow groomed run.

Biggest thing that I learned is to bend your knees a little bit more than your probably comfortable with. It helps with staggering the skis and getting enough lean to look over your shoulder almost 100% backwards (like an owl) so squat down, butt out and start one some groomers.

Like everyone is saying for sure stagger your skis, and just try and turn as if you were skiing forwards. I always practice on non steep areas of runs, at the top of lifts so I do not have to go over to jerryville on to the greens to practice skiing backwards. It is not a bad idea to go there, I just don't feel like waiting in those lines and wasting my time on the hill only practicing skiing switch. After a good amount of practice you start to feel more and more comfortable. Also try and just slide on the ground flat spins and keep spinning both ways to get used to "turning" in a way. It is a good stepping stone to fully skiing switch.
