Full on Park tune - How To - By Hand

This is how I do it. From new ski to Park Special. It only takes me 5 hours and 25 minutes.
Then the base preparation takes another three hours at least plus hot boxing.

5 hr on a park ski? great work but waaaay overkill. your attention to detail is great and you put 110% into your work and tune but its a park ski. to prepare it for the park all you need to do is detune tip and tail with a bastard file and detune slightly underfoot to not hangup on rails.

Ha ha! To each his own. These are for someone else. Not mine.
There are benefits to a high end tuned ski. This one will still grip a turn. It would do well in a half pipe too.
A well versed skier can tell the difference.

thats why i only detune slightly underfoot and not anywhere after the tip to the start of the binding toe and from the heel to the tail. i run 1deg base, 2deg edge. grip just fine and slide rails without issues.

i will admit, i did skip through the video to see the extent of the tune and it really is a high end tune. well done! i remember watching your other videos on there as well on how to prepare a brand new ski.

yeah thats as far as I go lol, a park skis just gonna get thrashed anyway so for the 99% this seems very excessive

Yes, it will eventually get thrashed. Yet these skis will start on the right foot.

Excessive is only for the few and the proud.

After a bit of testing from the skier we may go with a 2 degree long base.
If so that needs to be done right away, before the edge under foot becomes hammered into a work hardened condition.

Remember, although these skis will hit rails and boxes etc. there is more to skiing than just hitting the steel.

How do you guys sharpen park skis not under foot? My edges are so dull that i cant even link turns on groomers but they worked great when I didn't detune them when i first got them. I really dont feel like getting the edges sharpened and detuning them again

if you want edges, you need to get them sharpened. or take notes from Dominator and learn to sharpen yourself. head over to your local shop for a base edger and file and get a side edge file as well. then follow up with a diamond.

Most shops are park rat friendly and will knockdown the area underfoot during a tune if you ask.

You will be hard pressed to resharpen a work hardened hammered edge from banging rails. Once that's done, it's pretty much done.
You may be able to resharpen the extremities, and that will help your turning.

Update. This is a note I got from the owner of the "Park Tuned" skis. He is a very good skier.

I charged this guy 70 big dollars. (he's a friend) It's a labor of love. It's retail value at a shop that provides this level of HAND tuning (good luck, there are few, but some out there) is 120 to 150 dollars.

But really the point is to help others to learn to do for themselves because I care.

Dude been riding park for years and said the skis were dope as "F"! No grabbing on rails and still rail a turn!

It's all about proper geometry. Way less chance of top sheet damage and premature edge damage. Maximum life of park ski and a super buttery toy!

Like I said he's my home boy. Even a shop that does this level of work don't spend the time I do. They charge you 120, but you get 50! I have low overhead and I do it because I have OCD and pride in workmanship!

Shit man your OCD would probably make your head explode seeing and hearing about my skies. But for sure different strokes for different folks, Ill spend months painting my miniatures, or years re-reading books so I hear you. Fuck Goepper should hire you as a professional tuner or someone on the professional circuit atleast. Calling it now, Slopestyle guys having pit crews.
