I have bought skis the same way knowing that if anything happens to the skis I'm shit out luck, because I bought them second fucking hand. What the fuck don't you understand about that?

KittenFactoryWe do have the ability to pull up any customers order history and they can easily get a copy of their receipt from a shop they purchased the skis from. Or the shop can contact us themselves for a warranty claim. When you pay a premium for new skis, you are also paying for a warranty. If you shop around for a good deal on used equipment, you should do so knowing that it is not coming with a warranty. The OP's dad told us that he purchased the skis from a friend for $200. We cut him a check for $200 because we didn't have any replacements on hand.

I personally think you did far too much for OP. He's kind of a huge idiot and sounds like a whiny little bitch. And because you guys handled it so well I see you guys going somewhere very huge. Hopefully very soon too.

Agree with you. I have bought unmounted "used" skis and never would consider contacting a company when I destroy them..

KittenFactoryWe do build some of the most durable skis on the market and we stand behind our product 100% when it comes to manufacturing defects. At the end of the day, they are still skis and everything has a point of failure. You exerted a force on the ski that caused them to exceed the failure criteria of the materials. There is nothing more to it than that.

We have had very few warranties over the years and almost no warranties from what we would consider manufacturing defects (demlams, edge pull out, etc.) We do get a few people that snap skis every year at no fault of our own. These scenarios are bad for everyone because the customer is out of skis and we either have to deal with the salty backlash or be out hundreds of dollars. We have warrantied skis for situations such as yours before. Why have we done it? Because of the manner in which the people have approached us for the claim. We are much more likely to give somebody a warranty on snapped skis if they come forward and say, "Hey, I messed up and broke my ski. Can you do anything to help me out?" Rather than a person who instantly goes on social media and the forums and tries to tarnish our brand for something that was not our fault.

I was waiting for your email or phone call yesterday because I woke up to all the Instagram tags from your and your friends talking about how much our skis sucked. As a small business owner, that is never something you want to see. It was disappointing to see the lack of effort put into your email, so that is the amount of effort I felt necessary to deal with your claim.

That being said, our factory is on 525 S 300 W in downtown Salt Lake. Bring in your skis and the original receipt and I will refund your money.

Hugh_Conway_jrWell sir, I too have utilized warranty on several pairs of skis in my day ; K2, armada, Rossi, Solomon ... Not a single one broke because of an obvious defect, but each time the shop handeled everything, gave me fresh skis the same day.... Perhaps the industry has changed drastically since my last claim, perhaps the shops I deal with are baller .... But that's just how it's worked for me, and I would continue to expect things to work in the future.

Marginal conditions and huck to flat are just part of skiing. That's fucking normal use IMO.

I don't understand how you feel entitled to have skis replaced. You said yourself that you've broken skis from damn near every manufacturer, so it's not a matter of a lemon, or just a particular manufacturer putting out a sub-standard ski. Clearly the issue is with your skiing, or at least with your judgement about what skis are capable of withstanding.

Buying one of pair of skis doesn't entitle you to endless replacements for that ski. Where's the line? One warranty per ski purchase? Two? How many days on a pair of skis is the magic number where you got your money's worth?

So ski manufacturers and shops are on the hook for you "hucking to flat"? That makes no sense.

I'm glad that shops and brands take care of people when possible, but this idea that ski brands have to shell out replacement skis for situations like this is horse shit. Delams, diecuts peeling out, edges pulling away from bases on skis that have never even hit a rail....warranty away by all means!

And, now in this age where everyone fashions themselves some online celebrity and runs to instagram in order to bury some poor small company because they fucked up is sad to me. Even to op, like.....I see the willows dude. It's clearly an early season snowpack. You "dug around" and found nothing....well I bet you found the ground! The ground isn't too forgiving, especially when you land/tomahawk and lever the top of the ski against something.

I'm honestly surprised so many people are saying op is owed replacement skis. I would've taken that L. Ever heard of rock skis? Beater skis? Taking brand new skis into "pow" on a base of what....14"? Not a good idea. The fact they're two days is totally irrelevant. That failure isn't something you'd expect from cumulative use and wear and tear or the life of a ski. It's what you see when you take one really bad fall and the ski fails catastrophically. Just like in Logan's example of the dummy doing tip stands in the parking lot.

I'm sorry your skis broke, that shit is a huge fucking bummer. But, this thread is basically you soliciting what others would do given the situation and I would have reached out and seen what they were willing to do, and thanked them for any generosity they were capable of. I definitely wouldn't feel owed a damn thing.
