Snapped BRAND NEW skis

CaseyPersonally I would have been more careful with my wording. I am surprised they denied you outright though, no harm in saying send them to us we will look at the core where it snapped and see if it's bad or whatever.

lars.02i dug out the spot where i crashed and where the ski broke. there wasn't anything there to break them.

eheathI know how you feel man, I've broken a ski before while skiing pow early season and I was pissed they wouldn't replace them (this was 10 years ago mind you) and you just need to understand that if break a ski because you damaged it in early season conditions, it's your fault. Ski companies can't just give people free skis because they broke them.

Colorado hasn't gotten a ton of snow this year, I skied off the groomed run the other day at breckenridge and instantly hit rocks/stumps in what looked like really soft snow. I'd ask them if you can buy one ski at the discount and move on.

lars.02they offered 40% off. but when the skis are 2 ski days old and snap. i would think its a defect. i would understand if it was later in the season but its not. i would move on but i saved up all year to buy these skis and i don't have money to buy new ones. so im pretty screwed until i figure something out.

Hugh_Conway_jrGeneral rule of thumb, when trying to capitalize on a warranty , provide as little additional information / opinions as possible. Simply show them the broken ski, preferably take the picture inside (if you cant just bring it to the shop).

But ultimitly these guys are cocking you around. if it was a big name ski brand sold by a reputable shop, you would just walk into the store with your broken skis, and walk out with a fresh pair.

Best thing you can do is out them for how they choose to handle their warranty claims. it's a fucking PSA. Name names.

..then take the 40% off skis and sell them... and them buy new skis from a company that will stand behind their product.

JibbaTheHuttThe way i look at it is if you bought a new car, went and crashed it on the 2nd day of owning it you wouldnt expect the car manufacturer to replace the car would you. if the car broe down you would, manufacturer defects can include delam edge ripping out (assuming you didnt hit something) etc, not snapping a ski because you landed awkwardly.

We had some fucking moron get his brand new skis from Slopestyle and go out in the parking lot and do tip stands on them, bouncing until they snapped. He didn't have a single day on snow with them and we sure as fuck didn't warranty them. Don't point the finger at what looks to be a small reliable manufacturer because you were being an idiot.

StaticBack in the days of Orage's video contests we needed to break a ski i half for a video (a Head Mad Trix to be exact). Now we tried a lot of things; put that fucker across 2 couches and jumped on it, took axes to it, that bad boy just would NOT snap. What finally broke it was wedging it between two trees and pushing it with a car bumper (subsequently scratching said bumper).

If your ski snaps in half from skiing, which is entirely possible (never happened to me), it's a shitty fucking ski.

From a design side any sharp change in rocker profile could create a stress concentration and lead to a brittle failure. I'm not sure what their history is with breaking at that point though. Hey Mike, if it is a problem i think we found a material that could be a solution to stuff like that, hit me up.

StaticSure, Head is known for it's quality. Maybe a company that's incapable of producing (or replacing) a ski that lasts more than 2 days shouldn't be claiming to build some of the most durable skis.

C'mon man.. Nearly indestructible? Really? It's a pair of freestyle skis, not a tank. Hemlockjibber said it best, kids demand light and soft skis and don't understand the drawback in durability that follows. Skis are disposable. You bash them off metal and ice in extreme conditions day after day. Durable, yes. Indestructible, in your dreams.

How do you expect ski companies to stay in business if every dumbass who trashed their skis expected to get a refund or replacement?

I've broken 4 or 5 pairs of armadas over the last 5 years and I never expected anything from armada. It's the risk we take when we buy a product that we intend to smack, bash, slide, slam, etc.

lars.02even though the snow was heavy and that's what I figured what happened. The ski dig in the snow and hit heavy snow and snapped it.

We have warrantied skis for situations such as yours before. Why have we done it? Because of the manner in which the people have approached us for the claim. We are much more likely to give somebody a warranty on snapped skis if they come forward and say, "Hey, I messed up and broke my ski. Can you do anything to help me out?" Rather than a person who instantly goes on social media and the forums and tries to tarnish our brand for something that was not our fault.

I was waiting for your email or phone call yesterday because I woke up to all the Instagram tags from your and your friends talking about how much our skis sucked. As a small business owner, that is never something you want to see. It was disappointing to see the lack of effort put into your email, so that is the amount of effort I felt necessary to deal with your claim.

That being said, our factory is on 525 S 300 W in downtown Salt Lake. Bring in your skis and the original receipt and I will refund your money.

freeskibum82you shouldn't even do that. he should have been happy with the 40% but now that he went to social media you unfortunately need to go into damage control which is a shame. this is the problem with this generation of kids. part of the "its not my fault, post it to social media, blame someone else, place hand out palm facing up"

MinggOP has said like 17 times in this thread that he didn't want to say who the company was because he didn't want to trash their brand. So in my opinion this is a pretty harsh conclussion. There have been way worse threads in recent times about this stuff. Honestly thought this was one of the nicer, less bitchy ones.

buzzed"Epic crash"right in be insta feed kid most have hit super hard to break skis like that. Turns around and blames the company. KF make solid skis and kids like this can hurt an awesome company. Giving his money back is way more than they should do but i get it they want to move on from this mess caused by a whiny kid.
Side note this is one reason why social media sucks. one upset person can stir up a lot of noise and make good people look bad.

Also no, reputable companies don't just give out free skis because you fucked up, i've dealt with a few warranty claims in my time in ski shops, some were true warranties but alot are where people fucked up and are trying to get something out of it...

Hugh_Conway_jrWell sir, I too have utilized warranty on several pairs of skis in my day ; K2, armada, Rossi, Solomon ... Not a single one broke because of an obvious defect, but each time the shop handeled everything, gave me fresh skis the same day.... Perhaps the industry has changed drastically since my last claim, perhaps the shops I deal with are baller .... But that's just how it's worked for me, and I would continue to expect things to work in the future.

Marginal conditions and huck to flat are just part of skiing. That's fucking normal use IMO.
